You might recognize this 1959 Corvette as a rescue by popular YouTuber Dennis Collins.
The car proves even in those early days, enthusiasts were already becoming ardent fans of Chevy’s now legendary sports car. An invoice from the I.C. Mitchell Motor Co. in Atlanta, Ga., lists a 1954 Corvette as a $1,000 trade-in on the ’59 that sold for $3,895 in November 1959.
That Corvette loyalty would stick around as the car remained with the family for the next 61 years until Dennis found it in 2020.
After that, the next owner rebuilt the 327 V8 and four-speed manual transmission, along with recovering the red seat covers and carpet (though the covers look sloppy, at least in photos).
Now another owner, after buying it in 2023, has placed the still-unfinished car up for sale on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid is $30,000 with six days left.
Among the work remaining is the repair of the convertible top (including the frame) and a new paint job ( unless the new owner prefers the current patina that includes a faded 8 on the trunk lid). The radio and heater don’t work, and there are some blemishes on the dash.
Dennis found the car with its replacement engine with a Rochester mechanical fuel injection system and the next owner has already replaced it with a four-barrel Holley and Comp Cams camshaft.
The brakes and exhaust have also been replaced.
