I was cruising through YouTube this afternoon when I came across the fun track day video with a C8 Corvette Z06 owner. He had his car out at Southern California’s Buttonwillow Raceway Park and was running the Race #13 track configuration for the first time. Our racer does three track sessions throughout the day and then presents the best lap of each in the video below.
He says he was hoping for a 1:54 as his best time and was rewarded with a 1:54.9 during the second session. It ended up being a very hot day with temps reaching 95 degrees by the third session, and that’s when it got spicy out there as the tires got a bit slippery on some of the turns.
This was a very fun watch and because it was just three laps, you’re not overwhelmed by the ferocious sound of the Z06’s LT6 high revs as it carves up the track.
From Dez Driven via YouTube:
2nd Track day in the Z06 and we are at Buttonwillow Raceway running Clockwise Configuration 13. Very happy with how the car performed especially in the heat. It was about 95 degrees during the 3rd session. We called it a day after the 3rd session because it was just too hot
If you liked that, you can also watch his Day 1 Track Video from Buttonwillow here.

Nice video…. It was fun until our club stopped supporting all racing….
The more smoothly you drive, the less weight transfer you’ll cause, and therefore the more overall grip your tires will have. That’s why smooth is fast. Simple as that. But how do you drive smoothly? Look way ahead and deliberately make your inputs (turning the steering wheel, applying and releasing the brake and gas pedals) as smooth as humanly possible. And that will take focused practice.
PS I was personally taught this by the late great Robert Lewis Bondurant (1933-2021) who was an American racecar driver who raced for the Shelby America, Ferrari, and Eagle teams.
Many thanks,
Ray
Interesting to see cars like this enduring sessions in the 90F+
Many, if not most, European tracks events would call it a day with anything above 80F with the Hockenheim topping at 75 max.
Imagine what could be a best run done at 95F+ if it was at 75F!
