[VIDEO] It's E-Ray Versus a McLaren 600LT on a Private Airstrip

Brooks and his YouTube channel DragTimes were recently at a gathering of high performance cars on a private airstrip and from that we’ve already witnessed a battle between the 655-hp AWD Corvette E-Ray and a Porsche 911 Turbo S. While the E-Ray was able to out launch the Turbo S at the start, it would lose all three rounds due to the Turbo S’s insane acceleration.

Don’t feel too bad for the E-Ray as the Turbo S also thoroughly trounced a McLaren 765LT Spider on the same course which you will see at the start of this new video. But now its E-Ray redemption time and Brooks is driving Chevy’s performance hybrid against a McLaren 600LT in a best of three showdown.

The stats on the McLaren 600LT are impressive with its power coming from a 3.8L twin-turbo V8 which makes 592 horsepower. The rear-wheel drive sports car also sports a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and Brooks believes it comes in at around 3300 lbs which he says is about 1000 lbs less than the E-Ray. Actually, the E-Ray comes in at around 4100 lbs and it has 63 more horsepower than the 600LT. For the price of the McLaren at $310K, you could get two highly loaded E-Rays or get an E-Ray and a Z06 for a matched set.

On the first race, the all-wheel drive E-Ray grabs the lead immediately and the McLaren has no chance before the end of the quarter mile. The McLaren driver thought they were turning around and racing back like the U-Drags competition, but Brooks explains these are just straight quarter-mile runs.

Because there may have been some driver confusion in that first race, Brooks gives the McLaren driver “the hit,” meaning he won’t go until he see’s movement from the 600LT. With the McLaren getting the jump on the Corvette, it was much closer race until the McLaren stretch its legs at the end.

“All right. So with the hit, he got me by like a car. But from the hole, he can’t pass me so. I think we might give it one more,” says Brooks at the end of Race 2.

With the score tied up and now everyone understanding the assignment, the two sports cars line-up for one more pass. Race 3 was pretty much a copy of Race 1 with the Corvette launching hard and fast and the McLaren unable to close the gap within the confines of the quarter-mile course.

Brooks had a Dragy hooked up and on that third race, the E-Ray had a 2.83 second 0-60 mph time and its quarter mile was 10.69 seconds @ 125.30 mph!

Check out all three races from DragTimes and keep checking back as Brooks is promising a showdown between the E-Ray and a Z06.

  1. This video is somewhat odd. Brooks gives E-Ray Dragy data but does not for the McLaren. And the McLaren driver seems slow to react – plus, why wasn’t Brooks wearing a helmet? Brooks is too often a blowhard mostly favoring Lamborghini. Maybe that’s because he seemed to get a bit lippy with Ferrari who put him back in line for an allocation. YouTubers get special treatment especially from Chevrolet – they get their car before we get ours. But at Ferrari, YouTube does not mean much.
