The YouTube channel DragTimes brings us an interesting battle between the Corvette E-Ray and a Porsche 911 Turbo S that recently happened on a private concrete airstrip. The matchup the two all-wheel drive machines with similar power from these two iconic sport car brands, so we were excited to see what Chevy’s first performance hybrid could do against a well-known competitor.
The E-Ray gets its power from both a 495-hp V8 mounted in the back and a front-mounted 160-hp electric motor that powers the front wheels. That’s a combined 655 hp! This spec is a convertible with visible carbon fiber wheels so it still comes in at around 4100 lbs. This car was well-optioned with a $170K price tag, whereas the 3LZ Convertibles actually start around $122K.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is powered by a 3.8L Flat Six motor with 640 horsepower and it also has an 8-speed dual clutch transmission. This Turbo S weighs 600 lbs less than the E-Ray, coming in at 3,530 lbs. It’s a 911 so the price isn’t cheap as it’s listed at $270K as raced.
The E-Ray also had a Draggy running in it which provided the performance stats. In the first race, his 0-60 mph time was 2.89 seconds and he ran the quarter mile in 10.79 seconds at 123.19 mph.
His second run was slower and it turned out that the battery wasn’t fully charged. It was at this moment that Brooks realized he needed to have a fully charged battery to even try to compete with the Turbo S, and to charge it you need to drive it as the Charge+ feature uses captured energy when the E-Ray is driving or braking.
In the third race, the E-Ray ran its best times with a 2.83 0-60 mph start and running the quarter in 10.69 seconds at 125.30 mph.
While the Corvette did provide some very consistent launches and quarter-mile runs with the battery full charged, that Porsche 911 Turbo S brought some serious heat to the competition and took all three wins.

992 Turbo S Cabrio CARB curb weight tested at 3872 pounds but this one in the video weights 322 pounds less!? BS. This is why all the time I see a Porsche in a test I have to double check if it all true or not.
Trap speed of the Eray should be closer to high 120s, its a weak one or something not right.
Good old fashion butt woopen.
Well if the Eray had a turbocharged engine then the race would be fair. You are comparing apples to oranges. The price difference of 100K, put that into a Supercharger on the Eray, and that Porsche would see nothing but tail lights…..
