Our friend Mike at the Brink of Speed YouTube channel came across an interesting comment about the possibility of the C8 Corvette ZORA having even more horsepower than the estimated 1,224 horsepower that you would get by simply adding the E-Ray’s 160-hp front motor to the 1,064-hp Corvette ZR1.
I’m not sure I am with Mike on this one, but let’s see what you think…
From Brink of Speed via YouTube:
Ladies and gentlemen, today I’ll let you in a little leak about the Zora having crazy horsepower, maybe even 1,400hp.

that’s not a car to be driven,,1400hp why ? i have a 2020 2lt w 56k miles and a 22 3lt w supercharger @ 700hp and it is more car than 99% of us can manage. It is a different experience , it will get out from under you quick. First car i have had to roll into the throttle. I kicked the rear end around at 85mph while passing on I75 , gathered it up but scared me a bit… So ,,,, my point 1400hp,,, why…. never mind , I want one ….:-) ps- the 20 2lt is the best daily ride
I will just wait till this comes out and get my ZR1.
I don’t really want 1400 hp. That’s cool and all, but I’d honestly be happy with an combined 1000 hp go to with the AWD. Something that isn’t going to compromise the frunk or be negatively impacted by the lack of fender intakes on the HTC.
I imagine such a thing could be tuned to have as stupidly flat power curve, providing eyeball-crushing g-force at every RPM.
If Zora were alive today GM and Mary Barra would fire him…
I am completely happy with Corvette 2023 Z06.
As engineer I find the engineered technology that went into my 2019 ZR1 phenomenal, especially experiencing those track curves at Spring Mountain Race Way included in purchase. It was like the tires were dynamically glued to the payment, the steering and suspension responding to the driver’s thoughts, and the acceleration pushing me into the seat back as rear tires on the verge of loosing their grip! It can only be greater excitement in the new ZR1 and Zora.
A 1400 hp Corvette would be too much for the street.
I used to be capable of defeating almost any attacker, with the power to bench press over 400 lbs. and flexibility that was almost unhuman. But I also had the gentleness to deliver a baby, or lift an injured child (or adult) from a crashed vehicle, or care for a burn victim with such damaged skin that every touch was agony…
My point is… Just because a vehicle has the capacity of well over 1,000 hp, does NOT mean it has to be driven that way, all the time. I ride a motorcycle that is capable of 200 mph… but I do not ride thru a school zone at full capacity.
If YOU do not have self-discipline to control the vehicle you are driving, and adjust the speed you select… then DON’T BUY IT!!! The vehicle does what you tell it to do… whether it is a motorcycle or an 80,000 lb. Semi, or a school bus, or a Drag Racer… I have driven them all, and never had a crash — unless someone else lost control of Their vehicle.
Many, here, have expressed WISDOM by saying it may be “too Much” but that does not mean it will also be ‘too much’ for someone else… and we ALL have seen the results of someone who THINKS they can handle something… and then proceeds to show a crowd of people they do not even know, that they CANNOT control a vehicle that can deliver more than they can control…
But SADLY, many folks that know how to make Money to BUY such vehicles, do not know what to DO with such cars… which is WHY Corvettes include a Driver Training Course…
USE IT!!
Competition with the Euro cars. It’s a case of who has the biggest johnson.
No, no, no! It’ll have 4,000 horsepower. I saw that somewhere on YouTube…
I just sold a 2022 twin turbo gt500. Was 1200whp and 1060 tq. So right around 1400 hp at the crank. The car was a ton of fun and very manageable on the streets. I’m not understanding these people that are saying 1400hp is too much for the streets. My last car was a little over 1500whp and drove it nonstop on the streets. I guess it’s just whatever you’re used to.
Nice to see that Chevrolet isn’t letting grass grow under their feet. Being AWD, all that power will be planted on the ground better. So then there is C9… What will that be???
C8 Zora (as a regular production car) will go down as the biggest fake news of Corvette history.
It’s not a “render” it’s a “rendering”.
But I think it will hurt sales of the ZR1… It was pretty obvious that the E-Ray would be the
prediction of the Zora… perhaps even more power from the E-Motor, for the Zora…
All they have to do for higher power from the E-Motor is change the fear ratio’s for higher RPMs or enlarge the batteries… or to REALLY make a difference, go with TWO rotary E-Motors — one on each side — with ‘cv joints to the wheels like many of the EV cars do with 3 motors… THAT would allow room for the front downforce vent…
