Chevrolet’s complete lineup of eighth-generation Corvettes is almost complete! The Bow Tie Brand just dropped a twin-turbo, double middle finger bomb on the performance car establishment in the latest vehicle to wear the vaunted ZR1 badge. But even that shining accomplishment isn’t enough for the one-two punch of retiring and newly crowned Corvette Chief Engineers.
As far as we know, there is one, even greater model left in the pipeline. We in the media have been referring to it as “Zora” for years in honor of the inexplicably cool first name of another former engineering figurehead of the greatest model in American automotive history. This – still mythical – beast is set to marry the ZR1’s “unthinkable” 1,064 horsepower twin-turbo flat-plane LT7 V8 with the “electrified” front axle of the groundbreaking E-Ray.
By simply employing the third “R of education” in my late high school math-teaching Grandad’s favorite education joke (that’d be reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmetic), we are now in possession of the final puzzle piece to fully glean the Zora’s baseline numbers!
After combining the RWD ZR1’s four-digit horsepower and 828 lb-ft. and the 160 ponies and 125 torques of the E-Ray’s front-mounted battery pack/AC motor, we end up with an astounding 1,224 HP and 953 glorious lb-ft. of torque – without any additional tuning*!
On top of that, we can also surmise that the somewhat hefty Zora will push down on the scale with around 3,970 lbs. after adding the E-Ray’s 300 lb. advantage over the Z06 to the ZR1’s stouter 3,670 lbs. This leaves us with an astounding weight-to-power ratio of 3.24 lbs. per pony in the AWD Zora (we can’t wait to see one of these bad boy’s launch!)! Compare that to 3.44 of the ZR1, 5.27 in the Z06, 6.05 for the E-Ray, and 4.79 for the C7 ZR1!
We’ll be sure to keep you posted as these numbers come closer to fruition, but one thing is for sure: it’s an incredibly exciting time to be a fan of America’s Sports (Super, and now Hyper) car!

GM doesn’t have to add the hybrid drive on top of the LT7 in peak form. In fact, if the total hp for a Zora was 1000 and ~800 torque–in AWD form–it would make a fantastic grand touring car. Smooth out the edginess, round out the corners, and you have a wonderful machine to compete with the likes of anything else.
And I would buy one in a heartbeat.
The Zora…. will need a caution sticker….
The bigger question is why the Zora won’t have MUCH more than your guesstimated 1224HP? With all of GM’s resources, they should be able to make compact E-motors that are as good as the Quark (335HP/440 lb-ft) or Dark Matter (800HP/922 lb-ft) e-motors that Koenigsegg makes.
I don’t think they’ll be that lazy with it, I think they’ll improve on the E-Ray electric setup for the Zora. They’ll use the old E-Ray stuff for upcoming Camaros and carry the Zora front end to the next gen instead.
Corvette evolution is awesome. Zora 2 will have the Flux Capacitor so it can run on trash making Greta Thunberg happy.
Whatever happened to the long-rumored fully EV C8 Corvette? When V8 purists get past terms like “sacrilege” and “blasphemy”, the performance wars will continue upward no doubt to put the Tesla Plaid variants in the rearview mirror.
Milo is a hoot!! 🤣
And Tadge says he’s going to buy a regular Stingray for use in his retirement. I think he knows that the ridiculous amount of HP designed into the ZR1, Eray, and even to some extent the Z06 are unusable for the every day street driving we mostly do. He spends his money wisely.
I don’t know but I’ve always heard that anything over 700 HP is too much HP for the real world of driving on the street.
I agree w/ Robert, we don’t need more horror stories like Ex Raider Ruggs and NY Jets Brandon Echols making poor decisions and taking the lives of innocent people .
Heard it straight from the mouth of a high ranking GM executive , said he wishes the horsepower race would be over but to remain relevant it is better to be looked over rather than over looked.
Wow, I’m starting to respect Chevrolet again. All depends on you, I drive my 11′ GS everyday but it’s all stock, but I see no problem driving a ZO6 daily. I think it’s BS to spend big money on any HP car and let it sit, they were built to use. Ok so a 1200+ hp street car is not very practical, but so what! That’s part of the fun, my god people loosen up!!
I wish Chevrolet would make enough E-Rays. They seem to be just talk.
The Zora will probably break the 1,300 hp mark with the electric front end. The only problem is they keep adding weight to the car.
In honor of Zora, make as much horses the GM techs can muster!!!!
