While the news out of Detroit this week has been nothing but the nonsense surrounding the firings of Harlan Charles and Kirk Bennion, we do finally have some good news to share as today is National ZR1 Allocation Day! Dealers were sent their initial allocation numbers and next week dealers will be able to match a customer’s order to an allocation and submit them to the Order Bank on February 13th.
We started ringing up our friends at various dealerships and got some ideas on what kind of numbers we are talking about. We can’t share the exact numbers, but it looks like the Top 10 volume dealers got multiple units while some smaller dealers scored one allocation. Two dealers we spoke with did not get any allocations for the ZR1 during the first round.
The constraints for the first ZR1 order cycle will come next Thursday. We already know that the visible carbon fiber wheels will be on 100% constraint with them being termed “Late Availability.” We also have concerns about the T0M carbon fiber high wing of which we think there will some limited numbers available, but those numbers are expected to be very small. So, prepare yourself to say no to it if you want the car sooner rather than later. I really wish I had better news here.
Chevrolet also reconfirmed the important dates for the end of 2025 and the startup of the 2026 models. Friday, May 30th is the expected end for 2025 while the 2026 Corvette model year start up is Monday June 2nd. Those first allocations will happen for the 2026s on April 17th, while the last order cycle for the 2025s will be April 24th. Based on those dates, we should have at least two more order cycles for the ZR1 for 2025 production.
Next Tuesday the 11th, ZR1 buyers will be able to access the Build and Buy Configurator at Chevrolet.com to build out their cars, and dealers are also expected to get their ZR1 Playbook that provides them with a nice guide to follow when placing orders. That will come out on February 13th as well.

Why don’t dealers in the NW part of the US get hardy any of the latest Corvette models? Last to get E-Ray’s, Z06’s and now ZR1’s, ALWAYS.
There is a strict legal process regarding allocations that are applied to ALL dealers, regardless of location. Initial model sales have a defined calculation method (C8 Z06 allocations based upon their quantity of C7 Z06 sales/or Z51 average daily sales rate/or ….) So if your dealers aren’t at the top of the list of whatever that method is, they don’t get the first, but they will get some once that criteria is continually recalculated.
It’s the proper way to get the cars in the market they will sell and sell quickly.
Why can’t GM get reliable suppliers? There are always constraints. This is not a good look for GM. You should not advertise if you can’t deliver!

I’m glad that I wasn’t selected in the initial roll-out. Buying the first year of production of any new powertrain is not a good idea because it takes some time for consumers to do extensive “field testing/abuse” to identify the initial bugs. No sense owning a car that could potentially be trapped in dealership repair shop hell for an extended period. That applies to ALL new cars.
