Our friends at Scrape Armor are now taking pre-orders for their new Side Intake Guards for the widebody Z06 and E-Ray. These first orders will start shipping in January, but they made sure to send a set to our friend Justin at HorsePower Obsessed Corvette channel on YouTube. In his latest video, Justin records the installation of adding these new Side Intake Guards to his Z06, and the process looks like it can be completed within an hour or so by any owner.
One of the main reasons why Justin wanted to add the Scrape Armor Side Intake Guards to his Z06 is that the side intakes are known to suck up leaves and other debris and anything that does get through will get stuck in the air intake filters.
Justin tells us that the Scrape Armor Install Guide is pretty straightforward, but you do have to follow along and do each of the steps in order to ensure your installation goes correctly. He says that Scrape Armor will be offering an Install Video as well, but it hasn’t been released to the public yet.
Scrape Armor provides several installation tools with the kit and one of those is an alignment guide to ensure that the Side Intake Guards are fitted correctly. Justin shows how you use a special guide tool with temporary adhesive stickers and then once you have that in place, there is a special bracket that is fitted inside. That bracket then holds the new honeycomb screens in place with clips on each side.
Justin says that the Scrape Armor Side Intake Guards fit snuggly inside with just a 2mm clearance. While that makes it hard to get your hands in there to hold it, Scrape Armor provides a handle that clips onto the face of the guards so you can get the guards to match up with the brackets that were just installed.
As Scrape Armor worked with GM to create these Side Intake Guards, they really do have an OEM look to them. The honeycomb screen design matches perfectly with Scrape Armor’s front grille guards, and it also matches the mesh on the Coupe’s engine hatch. Even the plastic scoop cover on the bottom is the same color and texture as the OEM covers.
The Scrape Armor Side Intake Guards for the C8 Z06 and E-Ray are priced at $649.95. Currently, Scrape Armor is accepting pre-orders and then will start shipping the kits out sometime in January. Visit www.ScrapeArmor.com to pre-order your set as they will most likely sell out once their first production run has been completed.
For those with a C8 Stingray, Scrape Armor tells us that a version for the Stingray is in the works and will be offered soon.
