When it comes to symbolizing America, few cars do the job as well as the Chevy Corvette.
GM’s legendary sports car again ranks near the leaders on the 2024 Made in America Auto Index from the Kogod School of Business.
The Corvette Z06 finished 12th in the ranking, while the Stingray was tied at No. 14 with the Tesla Model 3 RWD. That’s actually a drop for the Stingray, which was third in 2022 and tied for seventh in 2023, even though its percentage of U.S./Canadian content has actually increased over the past two years, but other competitors have also upped their American content in the meantime.
Kogod bases its annual index on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Under the American Automotive Labeling Act of 1994, all vehicles sold in the U.S. must report and display on the vehicle the source of exclusive U.S./Canadian content, where it’s assembled, and where the engine and transmission are sourced.
The Corvette Z06 was listed as having 45% U.S./Canada Content and the Corvette Stingray has 40%. While the Corvette’s engines and transmissions are manufactured in the USA, the study’s details show just 22% of Body, Interior, and Electrical is from the U.S./Canada for the Z06, and it’s 19% for the Stingray. The total score for the Corvette Z06 was 72.5 and the Corvette Stingray came in at 70.
Elon Musk’s Tesla has been among the leaders for several years and again in 2024 has the top three vehicles – No. 1 Model 3 Performance, Model Y and Model Y Long Range tied for No. 2, and No. 3 Cybertruck. Tesla’s Model S and Model X are also tied for fourth with the Ford Mustang GT.
The highest-ranking GM vehicles were the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, which tied for seventh with the VW ID.4 electric crossover that’s now built in Tennessee, not Germany.

The real value-added activity in, for example, a transmission, is in the parts that make-up the parts that make-up the transmission. While auto assembly plants like Bowling Green Assembly play a starring role, it’s the thousands of small- and medium sized parts makers upstream of that transmission assembly point that truely measure the strength of a nation’s ability to make things.
Ok, don’t really care since I have never heard of this place and know nothing about them.
