[VIDEO] 2024 Corvette Stingray Races a 2024 Dark Horse Mustang and America Wins!

I used to think that the Ford vs Chevy rivalry was a lot like that of the Hatfields and the McCoys back in the day, but for the last couple of decades Corvette’s rivals has shifted to more of a European flare. But that doesn’t mean we don’t excited seeing a Mustang line up across from a Corvette Stingray at the dragstrip.

Here we have the somewhat new 2024 Ford Dark Horse Mustang, and without making this seem like a slight, but I was expecting a little more from the pony car with the cool name. The Dark Horse shares its 5.0L V8 with the GT Mustang, but was only given a 14-hp bump over the GT to come in at 500 hp.

MotorTrend says the 6-speed manual Dark Horse can run 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and is capable of running the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds at 113.5 mph. The Dark Horse can also be optioned with a 10-speed automatic which makes the car even quicker with a 0-60 mph sprint coming in at 3.7 seconds and 12.0 seconds @ 118.4 mph in the quarter.

The Dark Horse that showed up at New Jersey’s Island Dragway was the manual 6-speed version and it would have its hands full the 495-hp C8 Corvette Stingray. The two American icons made just one pass against each other, so give it a watch below!

  1. The Corvette totally dragged that Mustang’s ass all the way down the track! That’s hilarious.

  2. The thing is this, I desire neither car. The C8, for its hype, and what it’s got going on with its drivetrain setup and configuration consistently under performs. The DH in this video ran a time that a New Edge GT can match, and a GEN2 Lightning or LS1 could easily best. The reality is a new DH is capable of easily pulling on a stock Lightning or LS1 car. On a well prepped surface, with a good driver, and tire a DH has a high 11 second E.T. in it at a trap speed nearing 120 MPH, especially with a 10R80. My 18 F150 5L, which is a crewcab, FX4 on 20″ wheel truck with nothing but a flex fuel tune, running E85 would give any stock LS1 car fits, and likely beat it if the LS1 driver wasn’t really on his game, and I’ve owned LS1 Fbodys, and known people who would cut 13.0’s/13.1’s with them bone stock, so if a 5,600 lb truck that started with 400 BHP can match that with only a tune and E85 this DH with 1,600-1,700 less lbs, and an extra 100 BHP from the factory should have no issues running well into the 12’s if not high 11’s. The best performance car I’ve ever owned was my 19 1SS 1LE. In all honesty do I think a stock GEN6 SLE is faster than a stock DH with the handling pack? (which this DH did not have) Probably not, but it would be pretty close all factors being equal, and a stock M6 SLE is a low 12 second capable car.

All these cars have gotten way too heavy. These modern Vettes weigh about like Terminators, and the DH weighs close to Challenger Fat Packs. Just give me a C6 Z06, or a Foxbody who’s swapped the old 302 ci SBF for a new 307 ci SBF.

  3. Mustang guy should have taught himself how to drive and drag race with a manual trans to be competitive.

  4. My brothers Hemi would have beaten both of them bad in 1964, 11.04 @ 130 mph, not impressed. 60 years ago……

  5. The entirety of content displayed herein was so skewed and generally inept as to only hold interest for nitwits. How silly!
