In 1995, armed only with a passion for his Midyear Corvette and a vision of bringing the news, history, and culture surrounding its mythical nameplate to a nation of ‘Vette fanatics faster and more in-depth than they’d ever imagined possible, Keith Cornett walked away from a budding career in television to focus on planting a pair of Crossed Flags on the new frontier of the World Wide Web.
Ten years and several successful Corvette-related ventures later, CorvetteBlogger went live, signifying the realization of Keith’s visionary mid-90s concept. Over the ensuing 19 trips around the sun, Keith has published an astounding 10,106 articles, spreading the good word of all things Plastic and Fantastic. At the conclusion of each of these writeups, you’ll find the humble byline, “I drive my dad’s 1966 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible and call the Corvette Museum home.”
To casual observers of a site that has grown enough to support content from multiple talented contributors, many of whom seemingly go through new and classic examples of America’s Sports Car like DiCaprio goes through sub-26-year-olds, the founder’s dedication to a single heirloom C2 may seem a little bewildering.
But if you’ve ever heard the story of how Keith came to own the Cornett family Corvette, it’s clear as day that with the CorvetteBlogger, the Black ’66 is as personal as it gets, and no ordinary ‘Vette could ever measure up… until October 3rd, 2019, that is. Mr. Cornett was there, at the Kennedy Space Center, as General Motors upped the ante on its revolutionary mid-engine Corvette with the model’s first-ever Hard-Top Convertible.
Some say it was simply his time; around here, we think the perfectly sculpted nacelles did him in, but no matter the reason, Keith was hooked! He vowed then and there that he’d be putting a drop-top C8 in his Tampa garage sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, even the man who dedicates every day (even Christmas Eve!) to America’s Sports Car can’t claim immunity from the boring word soup that makes up the classic would-be Corvette owner’s downfall: priorities, obligations, and familial responsibilities. Being a dad with a crippling case of Corvette fever is a difficult first-world cross to bear, but Keith, who had one kid in college and one still in high school at the time of the C8 reveal, was able to hold on to his prized Good Father Card for five more long years to cap off an adult life branded by self-restraint.
These decades of patience have been generously rewarded as Keith and the lovely, supportive, and recently retired Mrs. Cornett become empty-nesters at what is arguably the height of the Corvette nameplate’s powers. The radical eighth-generation car has sprouted three distinct flavors of wide-body goodness, and they are all legitimate, excuse-free world-beaters. After months of research and obsessing over options, the Cornett-spec 2025 C8 Corvette has officially been ordered and is now at the dealership awaiting delivery! We’ll save the details for Keith to share, but as for the rest of us at the site, we couldn’t be more excited for our boss, who is quite possibly the best person in the automotive media space! Congrats, Keith; you earned it!
