[VIDEO] 1967 Corvette L88 Convertible Hammers Sold for $2.1 Million at Mecum Monterey

An extraordinary piece of Corvette history was offered for sale during Mecum’s Monterey auction last month.

This Black 1967 Corvette L88 Convertible was the first of just 20 L88s produced for 1967 and it was originally sold to noted racer Tony DeLorenzo Jr who campaigned the car in SCCA A-Production with co-driver Jerry Thompson.

Following a successful racing career, the car underwent a restoration by the Naber Brothers and was first certified Bloomington Gold in 1984. This car was also the first 1967 Corvette to win the Zora Arkus-Duntov Mark of Excellence Award in 1985, and it received the MCACN Triple Diamond in 2010. It has achieved multiple Top Flight wins and earned the NCRS American Heritage Award in 2013.

This ’67 L88 Convertible is fully documented with its Protect-O-Plate, original trim tag with Al Grenning/CCAS affirmation, original 1967 title, as well as a letter of Testimony from Tony DeLorenzo that was included with ownership history, race memorabilia, judging certificates, and more.

On the block at Mecum, the Corvette L88 Convertible quickly blew past $1 million before taking a pause at $2 million. Finally, an internet bidder entered the fray and with a bid of $2.1 million, the reserve was lifted and the would hammer sold at $2.1 Million. With commission, the out-door-price for this piece of Corvette history was $2,352,000.
