[VIDEO] The Straight Pipes Review the 2024 Corvette E-Ray

One of our favorite automotive YouTube channels is The Straight Pipes featuring Jakub and Yuri, and this week they shared a new review of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray. Their original launch review of the E-Ray was our favorite of the bunch, and they really seem to have a lot of fun with their videos. Plus, if you’re an E-Ray fan and like seeing the eAWD Corvette constantly launched, then this video is for you!

Each of the hosts spent some time in the car and then they filmed this drive where they cover all the important equipment on the car, the most interesting being the E-Ray’s hybrid front motor which provides eAWD to the traditional rear-wheel drive car. We also see the duo trying out the Stealth Mode where the car is operating under power only from its front electric motor, and both have too much of a heavy foot on the accelerator as each of them almost instantly doing a flying start with the 6.2L V8 engine coming to life.

More importantly, they each discuss how much fun the car is to drive. With 655 hp and 595 lb-ft of Torque, the Corvette E-Ray is ready for at least three season driving. Yuri mentions wanting to do a Corvette E-Ray review in Detroit during the winter so he can drive the car on snow tires. Yuri also says how effortless the car is when driving on the highway, easily able to get around slower traffic. During Jakob’s time behind the wheel, when he wasn’t stomping on the accelerator, he was exploring the Z-Mode menu that allows him to customize certain aspects of the Corvette, from steering wheel stiffness to loudness of the exhaust.

The E-Ray does get lots of comparisons to the Z06, with both starting north of $100,000 but each offering their own reasons to own. There was this exchange at the end:

Jakob: “I actually love this almost equally with the Z06, maybe even more in some situations which is insane to say.”

Yuri: “I know! No, I get what you’re saying especially with the ZR1 existing, the Z06…like is that irrelevant? I don’t know. Obviously not, but is it? I don’t know.”

No way is the Z06 is irrelevant at all, just some sibling rivalry going on between the different models. Remember that it was Yuri who got the 207-mph top speed run during the ZR1’s reveal. But Corvette people are fickle folks sometimes. With the C8 ZORA breaking cover at the Nürburgring this week, the joke has been about how enthusiasts are “canceling” their ZR1 orders to get on a ZORA list. Wait until they hear about the Grand Sport!

I keep hearing talk of the Grand Sport, but no one else (magazines, other automotive web sites, etc) says anything about it in the rumored C8 lineup! Am I missing something here? I would love to see a C8 GS, but it seems like vaporware at best. The C7 GS was arguably the Goldilocks of that gen. I’ve got my sights on an E-Ray, but if Grand Sport comes to fruition, I’ll be switching my allegiance!

Does that mean the hypothetical Grand Sport would be the ultimate top dog C8 even over the ZORA? That would be a lot of variants of the C8. It seems like GM might be trying to milk the C8 for everything they can get out of it.

If there is a Zora and it does indeed slot below the ZR1,and it has ICE with AWD, I will be in line to buy one. And hopefully every single one of the current E-Ray owners will be pushed to the back of the line this time around.

I’m tired of every dealership acting like you either have to have been on their waiting lists since you had a learner’s permit; or you have to have spent over half a million on previous purchases with their business.

And for the love of god, GM, whatever you are planning as a launch year, delay it by 1 model year. Everyone and their brother knows you cannot meet the timelines you keep showing off. Z06 launch was abysmal. E-Ray launch was worse. ZR1 will probably be 9+ months into the model year production run, before the first ones ever get delivered. At this rate, a Zora will be announced for 2026 and won’t actually roll out of production until December of 2027.
