[PICS] Let’s Go for a Ride at the Woodward Dream Cruise

Last weekend we made our annual pilgrimage to historic Woodward Avenue in the heart of the Detroit suburbs. We were joined by 1 million of our closest friends and 40,000 collector cars along a 16-mile stretch of America’s first paved road. The annual spectacle known as the Woodward Dream Cruise is essentially a holiday in the Motor City. It’s an event that’s hard to describe due to its immense size.

The cruise spans multiple cities from Ferndale on the south end to Pontiac on the north end. All along the route you’ll find cars cruising the boulevard and stuffed into every parking lot along the route. We love seeing where clubs supporting the various marques setup shop on cruise day.

We spent our day on Woodward as we usually do wandering the hot spots of Royal Oak and Birmingham. Mother nature provided a mix of sun and clouds and an occasional shower to cool things off. The skies opened just as we got to the Chevrolet display in Birmingham. The good news here is that we got to hear them fire up the new 1,064hp ZR1 while they backed it up into its display tent.

Corvettes are everywhere on cruise day. You’ll see them rolling up and down Woodward while several local Corvette clubs setup shop in the adjacent parking lots. This year we noted cars of all generations in stock and modified form. We saw several new E-Rays and Z06’s in addition to their front engined siblings. Corvettes are always plentiful on Woodward.

The Woodward Dream Cruise is a bucket list event for every gearhead. The selection of cars covers every corner of the car hobby. Then there’s all the one-off rides like the custom garbage truck, jet ski converted into a motorcycle, and we can’t forget the Labatt Blue beer can car.
