Our friend Mike from the Brink of Speed YouTube Channel is back with another video on his 2024 Corvette E-Ray. In this video, Mike talks about reaching 1,500 miles in the car and why he is no longer wanting a Z06.
Brink does bring an interesting perspective to the E-Ray vs Z06 owners’ debate as the C8 Z06 was the car he originally wanted. He previously owned a C7 Z06 and the C8 Z06 was the natural progression. But like many others who had been on a Z06 list for years, his hopes got dashed by greedy car dealers and huge markups, and so he ended up without one.

In the meantime, the 2024 E-Ray launches in the same widebody design as the Z06 and it features 655 combined horsepower and eAWD, a first for a Corvette. Mike is able to order one at MSRP and it arrived a few months later.
Now, with 1,500 miles on the odometer, Mike shares his thoughts on why he is in love with the E-Ray and why he doesn’t want a Z06 anymore.

Why hasn’t Bob posted up yet with his mandatory “I don’t like the E-Ray” blurb?
Title should be: Guy couldn’t get Z06. Tries to make himself feel better about owning the (less superior) Eray.
Correction: He CAN’T GET a ZO6 and got screwed on his first allocation.
Zero truth in saying he “prefers” the Eray over a ZO6.
All wheel drive is a “panacea” and it has a clear competitive advantage over all other rear wheel drive sport cars.

The comments on YT are equally hilarious to what TT C8 posted. There’s a monumental cabal of C8Z worshipers out there. And they absolutely hate being confronted with the idea that an equally powerful C8 could be a far better all around car than the C8Z.
Nor do I buy the “couldn’t get a C8Z, so got ER and is trying to convince himself” myth. He isn’t the first person to arrive at this conclusion, and I trust someone who has previously owned C8Z’s who has already said he prefers the ER.
If you love noise, don’t mind horrible MPG, and never intend to operate below 4000 RPM, then the C8Z is the perfect car for you. For the other 97% of the corvette community, the ER is all of the power in a package that is much better suited to all types of usage.
Nothing against the C8Z. It’s just that declaring the C8Z as “clearly superior” is entirely missing the point–and actually a far more biased judgment than concluding that the ER is a better vehicle in most regards.
Had a 2019 ZO6. Loved it. No place here to really drive it. Got sideways a lot on local streets. Bought a 2023 C8 convertable. Love it. How much hp do you really need?
