I always found Matt Maran to be a pretty good presenter of cars and he certainly appears to enjoy his time in Corvettes. No hype or drama, just the facts as we watch him drive on some great two-lane roads.
In this video, Matt has a few days with the new 2024 Corvette E-Ray and he offers up a really nice ride and review video of Corvette’s first performance hybrid sports car.
One of his only issues with the E-Ray is simply the cost of the car, and he feels that hefty price tag may hurt it as its MSRP is just $7,800 or so less than that of its track-oriented Z06. He does call it a fantastic car and enjoyed his time driving it.

I spend a few days with the 2024 Corvette E-Ray to see what the first AWD hybrid Corvette is like to drive and live with. Using the same strong V8 from the regular C8 and powerful front electric motors, you get basically the same performance as the Z06 while getting fuel economy like a regular Corvette. Beyond that and the 4 season capability, it’s hard to justify the E-Ray over the similarly priced Z06. But for those that like what the E-Ray offers, it’s a ton of fun like all the other C8s. What do you think about the E-Ray? Would you want an AWD Corvette? Thanks to Chevrolet for providing this vehicle to review!

These are the same arguments that have been made since the ER was announced. These are the same people who are shrieking for a C8 GS to be sold for some insanely stupid MSRP…such as a mere 10k over the SR.
ER justifies itself on price–though many seem to gloss over it. Widebody, CCB’s and hybrid drive; that’s what the cost is getting you. Remember–CCB’s are an $7500 upgrade on the Z06, but standard on the ER (and the SR has even cheaper stock brakes than the Z06).
Assume:
10k for widebody
7500 for CCB’s
15k for hybrid drive (5k motor, 10k battery)
That alone gets you darn close to the MSRP for the ER. Compare that with the Z06, where you are getting widebody + engine swap. Assuming the LT2 is worth merely the same as the LT1 crate engine:
10k for widebody
-12k for LT2
+45k for LT6
So the net effect is you are paying 45k for an engine swap in the Z06 vs paying 25k for hybrid drive + CCB’s in the ER. (Widebody is a wash).
TLDR:
Everyone who keeps saying the ER “isn’t worth it” or is “too pricey” or “is too close in price to the Z06″…has completely missed the point. And is also bad at math.
