With Tadge Juechter cashing in his chips and driving off into the sunset in his C8 Corvette Stingray Convertible, GM has appointed Cadillac’s V-series chief engineer Tony Roma as the new Executive Corvette Chief Engineer. Tadge left some incredibly large shoes to fill, but something tells me that Mr. Roma will be up to the task of taking the Corvette brand further into uncharted territory.
So far the Corvette Nation hasn’t heard from Tony directly yet, but he did just take the reins on August 1st. That doesn’t mean he is not out and about town with a new company car. Thanks to Facebook, we have a new but very brief video showing Tony with a pre-prototype 2025 Corvette ZR1 Coupe in Detroit. We can hear the car at idle as Tony is seen allowing several interested people to check out the new ZR1 both inside and out. As the camera moves to the front of the car, we can see a lady trying out the driver’s seat.
This Red Mist ZR1 coupe is equipped with the ZTK performance package as its wearing the large rear carbon fiber rear wing, but interestingly, there is no split window rear glass on this car and instead it has the regular rear coupe class. GM probably had the car equipped with the standard glass hatch to help hide that design feature until the reveal, although we remember seeing the distinct outline on a camouflaged ZR1 and making that observation nearly two years ago.
The person who took the video is Jonathan Carter Moorman and he posted it to the C8 Corvette Owners (and Friends) group on Facebook. Jonathan said the following in his post:
“Not often you stumble upon Tony Roma (new Corvette chief engineer) in a ZR1 while cruising in your C8. Super awesome guy and super awesome car.”
Not sure if everyone can see these Facebook group videos, so here are a couple of stills from it:

Interesting….this ZR1 does not have the split window.
Like that rear hatch without the split window 100x better!
“in Detroit” = along Woodward Avenue in Birmingham, MI.
