An internet meme called “can’t comprehend” defied the odds by staying relevant for more than a few weeks. It has folks posting lighthearted pictures featuring outrageous bits of American culture (e.g., the Big Gulp or a monster truck rally), the daunting size of the US compared to the old world, ridiculous occurrences that could only happen here (like this and this), or – and these are the best ones – simple US luxuries that they don’t have or aren’t perceived as having abroad (spoiler-free example 1 and 2) that would baffle “the European mind.”
Well, our favorite non-American automotive YouTube channel has just posted a full review/”couch chat” of the C6 Corvette ZR1 that made an epic cameo in its C8 ZR1 introductory clip that might as well be titled “can’t comprehend: the video.” It is from James and Thomas’ secondary channel: “Extra,” where they post shorter, single-car videos with lower production value and more conversation than what gets posted on the Throttle House main page, and their most recent subject is a Blade Silver on Ebony C6 ZR1 on the model’s signature 20-spoke chrome wheels.
Before even hitting play, your author was beholding the thumbnail image, all the while thinking, “Wow, that is one gorgeous, curvy, yet understated car!” But the hosts set the tone for the whole video early by explaining how the C6 doesn’t really do it for either of them. That’s how the whole thing goes: ZR1 looks and SOUNDS incredible but only earns faint praise (but was also compared to the Lotus Emira, their ’24 car of the year and “the most engaging new car on sale,” in terms of, you guessed it, driver engagement).
It is certainly worth a watch for everything C6 ZR1 as long as you remember that it isn’t the hosts’ fault that they can’t fully understand such a beacon of freedom, and cut them some slack for keeping good company as it is revealed the owner of the ZR1 traded in his McLaren 720S on it because the alien-tech Brit didn’t really seem to need his input to go fast.
As for this viewer, I came away admitting to myself that no matter how infatuated by the mind-bogglingly impressive 2025 ZR1 I am at the moment if I were parking one of the two super ‘Vettes to park in my garage and drive as often as I could, it’d be the analog, Supercharged one, every day of the week!
