By the late 1970s, the Corvette had transformed into more of a boulevard cruiser, thanks to the stranglehold put on the car’s engineers who were battling tougher emissions standards of the era.
That means the overwhelming majority of models like the 1977 Stingray left the St. Louis factory with a Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission – indeed 41,231 of the 49,213 produced that year were so equipped.
This ’77 is the exception, though, as it packs a four-speed manual gearbox, which should make driving a little more exciting despite the overall lack of performance.
You could be the next owner of this Corvette Tan example, which is being offered for just $7,999 on craigslist out of the Murrieta, California area, southeast of Los Angeles.
Only five photos accompany the listing, but they appear to show a decent-looking driver with 97,280 miles showing on the odometer, and we really like the Brown cloth-leather combination interior that complements the exterior color rather well.
Not much information is given about the car overall, though we are told it has a 350 V8, probably the 180 horsepower version that was 30 horses shy of the more rare and more powerful L82. The owner does say that his car “runs and drives great,” adding that the body is “very straight” and the interior is “in nice shape.”
We always liked the look of the ’77 Corvette, especially in Classic White with Red interior, as one of our classmates drove, though this Tan is growing on us as the years go by.
