After being stored for the past 35+ years, this 1965 Corvette convertible will soon be heading to a new home.
The high bid of $35,100 has already surpassed the reserve in an eBay auction slated to close on Sunday evening, so this long-ignored Sting Ray will finally be returning to the road once more.
And not a moment too soon. After all, a Nassau Blue Sting Ray beauty like this one definitely deserves to be enjoyed.
Despite its lack of use, with what’s apparently the original mileage of 44,424 on the odometer, the car will first need some refurbishing, including a repaint, but on the bright side, it’s said to have a solid frame and rust-free birdcage underneath.
Another bright spot is the original drivetrain that features the L79 327/350 horsepower V8 engine that pumps out 100 more horses than the base unit. The increased power lowers the quarter-mile time to 14.2 seconds – more than a second quicker than the 327/350. Of course, since this one hasn’t been started in decades, it will first have to be trailered to its new home for repairs before squealing the tires.
The matching numbers engine, which appears to have never been apart or rebuilt, still turns over freely and “probably could be running within a couple hours,” the seller believes.
He says 95% of the car is complete, with several parts already removed for minor restoration like tail pipes and mufflers, windshield stainless, carpet, door latches, shocks and miscellaneous other items. He also has boxes of parts that are included with the sale, some of which were just found, including the door parts and gas tank.
No doubt when this car was new, it turned quite a few heads with its blue paint over blue vinyl interior, though the seats and carpet will now need to be replaced with easily sourced new parts. While we like the original all blue theme, we really love any Corvette with a white interior, but most especially a C2, so that would likely be our approach.
What would you do with this old Sting Ray yearning to stretch its muscles again after so many decades of rest?

Restore it and keep the blue over blue combo.
Amen, Robert. White interiors are too much work, too fussy – if you want a driver instead of a garage queen.
