You might call this a tale of two Corvettes.
While perusing the internet this week, we found two one-owner Gold Metallic 1982 Corvettes for sale. What are the odds that you could locate two such ‘Vettes since they’re painted the third rarest color that year, with only 648 produced (behind the 562 Dark Blue and 567 Bright Blue)?
But that’s what happened when we first spotted such an ’82 on Facebook Marketplace, with the Daytona Beach, Florida seller marking his car down $3,500 to $18,000 in hopes of snagging a buyer.
Promising his ’82 is in “nearly flawless condition,” despite its 77,500 miles, he says it’s a one-family-owned Corvette that’s always garaged in a temperature-controlled environment and “handles beautiful, tracks straight down the road.” Furthermore, the paint is described as “nearly flawless,” while the Camel interior is said to be “in almost like new condition.”
The car also recently underwent a complete tune-up, with wires, plugs, injectors, valve cover gaskets, and all fluids replaced, along with the addition of new tires, brakes, and alternator. For some reason, though, he says the AC still needs to be charged – why not take care of that with all the other work?
Then Wednesday, we saw another such Gold Metallic over Camel ’82, this time on Bring a Trailer. At first, we thought it was the same car, since it’s also a one-owner.
But the description on this one says it’s been driven just 3,985 miles over the past 42 years, less than 1,000 miles per year.
Not surprisingly, activity has been hot and heavy on this car, with the high bid already soaring to $32,000, with five days left in the auction.
The single owner also kept it in a climate-controlled garage, and its condition shows that as photos and videos reveal an immaculate car inside and out. By the way, this one originally was delivered to Dave Smith Chevrolet of Muncie, Indiana where it listed for $20,880, with options like the $132 Electric Rear Window Defogger, $165 Speed Control with Resume, $458 Aluminum Wheels, $423 AM/FM/Cassette sound system, and $60 Power Antenna (that has recently been replaced).
A master mechanic with 35 years of experience recently performed engine, transmission, and brake service at Sam Pierce Chevrolet of Daleville, Indiana in anticipation of the sale.
“I asked them to do a fuel test to make sure before the vehicle was driven that fuel was not tainted, even though the owner reassured me he siphoned it out at the end of the year of driving,” the seller explains. “Secondly, I asked for a thorough inspection of the vehicle in which they informed me of the trans pan, passenger side caliper, master cylinder, passenger side shock, and valve covers having a seep of fluid so I had them replace them all. I have everything that was taken off. Except the gaskets of course. I also knew upon purchase of this ‘Vette the power antenna was [inoperable] so I had it replaced.”
The seller notes that no body or paint work has ever been done to this vehicle, “just great love and care in a climate controlled environment.” He says the original owner added the tape pinstripe to break up the body lines and the seller left them on “to keep the originality of the time capsule.”
Now comes the big question for our readers. Would you rather have the 77,000-mile car or the 4,000-mile one in your garage?

$32k is a bit much considering you can buy a nice C6 for that kind of money.
Someone must really want an 1982! They are not a collectors year for sure…
Reading this article made me think back to 1982 when Dale Earnhardt was a special guest at a luncheon at the first company I ever worked for. Some of my coworkers and I watched as he drove into the parking lot maybe little faster than he should have in his Gold Metallic 82 Corvette just like the one in this article. At the time I owned my first Corvette, a 77 and I was thrilled to get to talk Corvettes with him for a few minutes after the luncheon. It made my day. I was very sad when he died at Daytona.
