Corvettes for Sale: Identity-Confused 1972 Corvette on eBay

We’ve heard of C8 owners removing the factory emblems from their cars, ostensibly to make average folks think they’re really driving a much more expensive Ferrari.

But we’ve never seen someone take a chrome-bumper Corvette and deface it with a Porsche tag on the front.

Maybe the owner is just having a good time with his 1972 Stingray coupe and is hoping the tag will spark a conversation with curious onlookers.

Whatever the reason for the identity crisis, this vintage C3 is on the market now, with a listing on eBay through Sunday night in the Sapulpa, Oklahoma area. So far 34 bids have climbed to a high of $13,101 for what the seller describes as a “nice survivor that has not been molested” – other than perhaps the addition of that Porsche tag.

He says the car has been driven locally on special occasions like school, work, car shows, and general cruises over the past year.

The original 350 engine that was good for 200 horsepower is still under the hood, and the seller believes the car “runs and drives well for its age.”

Though he says it’s obviously not a brand new car or restored, he says he would nevertheless not hesitate to drive it 100 or miles. At the same time, he “highly” recommends that the new owner trailer the car home “as it would be a new old car for you.”

Not many other details are offered about the car, though the seller does offer to provide a running video, birdcage photos, and other information to interested parties. Photos taken on a lift seem to indicate that the frame is not rusty, though.

Other photos seem to indicate that the aging blue paint on this one makes it a “10-footer” for sure, with close-ups revealing fiberglass damage across the rear end from an apparent accident. The interior, meanwhile, appears to already have a reupholstered driver’s seat made out of non-original material but the passenger’s seat bottom looks like it might still require the same treatment.

The car definitely won’t win any awards at your local show, but it looks like it could still provide some decent, inexpensive fun for now, with restoration always a possibility in the future.

  1. Wow, what kind of low life scum bag would deface a C3 Vette that way?? Well I answered my own question by looking closer at the plate “Oklahoma”. Pretty much explains everything. My god I hate people.

  2. 10-footer? With this car’s bad paint, cracked rear end and rough interior it’s at least a 20-footer. Just remove the Porsche tag and throw it in the trash where it belongs.
