Corvettes for Sale: No Reserve 1982 Corvette Collector's Edition on eBay

To celebrate the end of the Corvette’s longest-running generation and entice buyers waiting for the C4s, Chevrolet offered the very unique 1982 Collector Edition.

More than 40 years later, we think it’s one of the best-looking and classiest special edition Corvettes ever built, and now someone may have an opportunity to pick up one of these classic C3s for a song during a no-reserve auction on eBay out of the Miami, Florida area that is slated to close Sunday night.

So far, the high bid is only $6,305 – well below the market price.

While the car is far from perfect, with 106,468 miles showing on the odometer, it nevertheless appears to have the potential to be a good driver.

The seller says it’s a numbers-matching car, meaning it still has the original 350/200 horsepower crossfire injection V8 engine under the hood, connected to an automatic transmission. He says it “runs and drives nice” but admits it could use “some TLC like any 42-year-old car.”

It’s hard to tell from photos, but the special silver beige paint (that was the first model year to receive a clear-coat finish) appears to still be decent enough, though as with so many of these rubber-bumper C3s, the front bumper doesn’t match the rest of the car. Also, the pinstriping on the nose is peeling in spots.

But, hey, remember the price!

Inside, the leather seats show some of the wear and tear of a car that’s covered more than 100,000 miles, but the good news is that they’re still serviceable enough. A new rubber console might do wonders to spruce up the interior for not much of an investment. We’re not too sure about the wood steering wheel that’s been installed in place of the original, either.

Our favorite part of the Collector Edition cars, though, has to be the exclusive rear hatchback glass that actually opens, the only C3 models ever to be so equipped. Too bad Chevy waited until the last year to offer that!

Besides its exclusive silver beige paint job, the CEs also featured unique, graduated stripes on the hood bulge and from the front side quarter vents to the rear of the car, along with pinstriping on the top of the front and rear quarter panels. The graduated graphics gave the appearance of the paint fading to another color.

Another popular exterior feature of these cars was the 1967-styled finned aluminum wheels.

The CE package also had a silver-beige leather interior with graduated striping on the door panels and seats, along with premium luxury carpeting. This one even has a CB radio, too!

Also included were removable bronze-color glass roof panels, rear window defogger, white-letter Goodyear Eagle GT tires, and power antenna, as well as special Collector Edition badges on the hood, rear fuel door, and steering wheel (which this car is obviously missing).

In all, 6,759 of these Collector Edition Corvettes were sold, and to keep people from passing off standard ‘82s as CEs, Chevy changed their VINs to include a “0” in the sixth spot.

One last note: Corvette enthusiasts were definitely experiencing sticker shock by the time the ‘82s were leaving the Bowling Green factory. The MSRP in 1978 had been $9,351.89, but had nearly doubled by ’82 to a whopping $18,290.07. The CEs were even higher, at $22,537.59.

  1. Can’t imagine driving a Corvette with 200 horsepower. A cousin owned a 76 and it was a turd. My Olds station wagon was faster.
