Corvettes for Sale: 1965 Corvette Coupe with a 350ci V8 and a 5-Speed Transmission

This 1965 Corvette coupe sure has come a long way since it was built at the St. Louis factory nearly 60 years ago.

For the past decade, it’s undergone an intensive restomod restoration, with modern Corvette-themed updates, and is now being offered on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid has climbed to $45,000 with five days to go in the auction.

The project started after the seller bought the car in 2012, and he spent the next three years making a series of modifications like the installation of a 350 V8 with an Edelbrock air cleaner and intake manifold, aluminum radiator, and dual exhaust system. The valve covers and air cleaner have been painted to match the exterior of the car.

Other mechanical updates include a Tremec five-speed manual transmission that was installed in 2018 and a Positraction differential rebuilt in 2013.

The most obvious change to the naked eye, however, has to be the switch from the original Glenn Green paint to a fresh coat of eye-grabbing 2005 Corvette Daytona Sunset Orange metallic. The seller says the body was blasted down to bare fiberglass and a new gel coat was applied before the car was primered and block sanded for five months. Now, he says, “there is not a ripple or wave on the entire body – it looks like a steel car.”

Leaving the rear chrome bumpers in place, he then removed the front bumpers (and filled in the holes) and all the emblems (switching to an “S” on the fuel filler lid) while adding a 1966-style grille. This vintage Sting Ray also has a stinger-style hood, four-wheel disc brakes, American Racing Torq Thrust 17-inch wheels, and Vintage Air climate control.

Personally, we’d have added side exhaust pipes, but we appreciate he was looking for a clean appearance with the new custom steel smooth rocker panels installed in place of the stock aluminum panels.

Inside, we really like the look of the light tan leather seats sourced from a 1993 Corvette ZR1 with darker rust ostrich embossed centers that match the door panels and custom center console. Woodgrain trim accents the console and dash, which features an assortment of Dakota Digital gauges and an aftermarket sound system that includes a pushbutton AM/FM radio, Kenwood amp, and Kicker audio with Bluetooth connectivity. Don’t miss the cool accelerator, footrest, clutch, and brake pedals, either!

All in all, if this one doesn’t climb substantially over the next seven days, this sure looks to be a lot cheaper than the ones we’ve been watching at Barrett-Jackson over the weekend!
