Corvettes for Sale: 1961 Corvette Project Comes With Enough Parts to Make it 95% Complete

Would you pay $28,000 for a 1961 Corvette with enough parts to make a “95 percent complete” car?

That’s the situation prospective buyers are facing in a rather confusing eBay ad out of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts.

This ’61 – which if a hardtop window sticker is true was a National Hot Rod Association class winner at Island Dragway at some point in the past – is said to have been stripped down for paint 43 years ago, parked in a garage, and never finished.

Now, the owner says the Corvette is being sold for parts, though the ad seems to offer hope that a restoration isn’t out of the picture.

Indeed, he calls the car “95 percent complete,” noting that the body has “all original” bonding strips and the frame is “solid.” The only missing parts, according to the ad, are the radio, carpet, one piece of side chrome and the grille.

While photos may look like the car is missing a lot more, the seller notes that “the rest of the parts are there,” things like bumpers and brackets, headlight buckets and chrome, taillights and bezels, seats (described as “rough”), door panels (“very rough”), kick panels, grille surround chrome, door glass, A-pillar chrome, door stainless, deck lid stainless, both hard and soft tops, emblems, and most hardware are included with the sale.

Some of the major parts – like the doors, hood, and trunk lid – aren’t bolted onto the car, “just resting” on it.

Meanwhile, the 283 engine under the hood isn’t the original but does appear to be a mid-1960s 195 horsepower version. It’s connected to a four-speed manual transmission.

One last area of concern for a potential buyer is that while the car has a DMV-issued, transferrable, Certificate of Ownership (title), the VIN plate that was spot welded to the steering column is gone.

Do you think this one has potential?
