[VIDEO] U-Drags is Back with Some C8 Corvette Stingray vs BMW M2 Action!

0-60, quarter mile, stopping distance, roadholding; vehicle performance testing was pretty uniform across the board for decades until Edmunds came along with a brilliant idea: what if all four of those performance benchmarks were smashed together into a single assessment of a car’s performance envelope? U-Drags was born, and we’ve been hooked ever since – especially because Edmunds’ greatest invention just so happened to more-or-less coincide with the publication’s purchase of its own, no-strings-attached C8 Corvette!

U-Drags is back for the first time in 2024, and so is the Rapid Blue Stingray (which has more than 30k miles on it now)! On the other side of the “mushroom cloud” down and back layout, this round is the second-generation (G87) BMW M2 which initially looks like an easy lunch for the C8. On paper, the $13,000 cheaper Bimmer is down on cylinders and power while also pushing down on the scale with about 210 additional pounds.

So, the dedicated two-seat, 3,649-lb. local hero with its dual-clutch transmission, launch-friendly weight distribution, and a horsepower/torque mix of 495/470 from a 6.2L V8 is facing a German 2+2 with a traditional 8-speed automatic, RWD, and factory ratings of 453 HP and 406 lb-ft of front-mounted twist. Of late, though, BMW has become notorious for underrating how potent its engines actually are. A quick “M2 dyno” Google search reveals this truth; these blown 3.0L inline-sixes are putting more power to the wheels than they are advertised as making at the crank, meaning the M2 is a 500 HP car all day long, and the four-year-old ‘Vette might have a bigger fight on its hands than it expected.

How are the chips going to fall in this battle between pillars of semi-affordable speed? Will the Corvette continue to reign supreme in the realm of sub-$100,000 performance? Watch below to find out!

  1. I really like the way Edmunds does these tests, way better then most. Their C8 kicks ass a lot. When are they going to upgrade to a ZO6?? These guys are using a standard issue C8 against all these others.
