It may not be perfect, but the 2024 Corvette Z06 doesn’t miss by much.

At least that’s the kudos handed to Chevy’s supercar by Motor Authority, which has just named the Z06 as its “Best Car to Buy 2024.”

Too bad only a few of the Motor Authority readers will ever be able to gain access to a Z06, if 2024 production remains around the 11 percent of total Corvettes built in 2023.

The 2024 Z06 joins two other recent Corvette models to earn the Motor Authority honors, with the C8 Stingray so honored in 2021 and the C7 ZR1 cited in 2019.

Motor Authority praises the new Z06 for its “truly special engine that acts like it came from an exotic Italian automaker.” Indeed, the car’s 5.5-liter flat-plane crank LT6 V8 produces 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque on its way to producing amazing times of 2.6 seconds from 0 to 60 and 10.6 seconds in the quarter-mile. That’s even better than the 755 horsepower (but front engine) 2019 ZR1’s 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds and quarter-mile mark of 10.8 seconds.

Motor Authority is also a fan of the Z06’s 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, describing it as “incredibly responsive” and capable of keeping power “at the ready in any scenario.”

Saying it looks like “an angrier, more ripped” Stingray, the website notes the Z06 doesn’t have the cachet of a Porsche or a Ferrari, and its interior isn’t up to their standards.

But Chevy’s ultimate sports car (at least for now, until the ZR1 and Zora appear on the scene in the coming years) represents “a moment in time and history that will never happen again,” Motor Authority writes.

“Ferrari’s already moved on past naturally-aspirated flat-plane crank V8s and into its twin-turbo, V6, and hybrid era,” MA says. “There will be faster and more powerful Corvettes, but it’s improbable any will be as special.”

  1. I love the horsepower numbers,I just hate the Indy car sound. It’s why I passed on a 2023 70th. That plus the $75,000 over window they wanted.

  2. Unattainable for most Corvette buyers. Bought a new GS Corvette in 2019. Wish I spent a few dollars more for the Z06. Almost half of today’s Zs price
