Corvettes for Sale: LS5-Powered 1972 Corvette Convertible

After 25 years with the current owner, this 1972 Corvette convertible is looking for a new home on AutoHunter.com.

This isn’t your typical last-of-the-chrome-bumpers, though.

The massive numbers-matching 454 V8 engine has been built to 1970 LS5 specifications, bored .030 over. The stock engine pumped out 270 horsepower, but a dyno test shows this one after the upgrades is now producing 396 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

In the nicely done engine bay, you’ll find chrome valve covers, an electronic ignition coil, a chrome distributor cover, a chrome air filter housing with a K&N filter, and cast iron exhaust manifolds. A set of Flowmaster mufflers has also been installed.

The car was reportedly restored in 2000 in the original color of Classic White, with a manual white vinyl convertible top, and photos with the listing show the paint still to be in excellent condition, with the most noticeable flaw we spotted being a small touched-up chip on the top of the corner of the rear end.

Photos detailing the restoration are included with the sale, along with the original fuel tank sticker, the removed original radio and mufflers, receipts, dyno test printouts, and a clear title.

Some enthusiasts might be disappointed to find a three-speed automatic transmission, but personally the older we get, the more we like not having to shift gears. It’s a personal preference, though one that might cause some bidders to skip this car but make others want to pull the trigger even more.

Other luxurious features of the car include power steering, power windows, power disc brakes, tilt and telescoping steering column, aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette radio, and air conditioning.

Inside, this Corvette has a very nice Saddle leather interior that remains in top-notch condition, including the optional woodgrain trim on the door panels and console.
