[PICS] GM Has More 2024 Corvettes Parked in Michigan Than Originally Believed

We’ve written several times about the unknown issue that has forced GM to ship new 2024 Corvettes from the assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky to a holding lot in Pontiac, Michigan. A spokesperson who originally commented on the subject had said it was for an update/repair on an issue that GM has yet to acknowledge.

We are now heading into our fourth week since these shipments were made public, and now we have some additional photos which show that the scope of this problem is a lot larger than just 20 or so Corvettes as we initially believed.

The MidEngineCorvetteForum.com has the definitive thread on this subject with many owners chiming in that their cars had been shipped to Pontiac. Several have made repeated attempts to contact anybody at GM who will listen to them, but the response has been less than stellar as we detailed earlier this week.

On Saturday, a member of the MECF named Craig Hodas says that his car is now among the 80-100 estimated cars parked in the holding lot. He says his 2024 was built on September 19th and sat for just over six weeks at BGAP before being shipped to Pontiac this past Tuesday. He adds, “[email protected] needs to explain to us why this is happening.

The holding lot is located at 3810 Campus Drive in Pontiac MI, and from our review of these photos, it appears to be gated and has on-site security sitting in that white SUV.

Some of these owners had already paid for their cars as they were planning an R8C delivery with the National Corvette Museum, which is part of the policy. But if you’re having a 2024 Corvette built and are doing delivery at your dealership, do not pay for it until you know for certain that it has hit the ground at the dealership. Due to how GM does its allocations, some dealers will try to get owners to pay in advance before the car arrives, so that it shows the car was bought and paid for faster than what it actually was.

Thanks again to Craig for sharing these photos. To keep up with the latest, head over to the MECF.

  1. I am so lucky. When I ordered my 22, it came in exactly 8 weeks with every option I ordered and it is loaded with everything. I feel bad for the people having to wait with no information. As a retired employee, I am embarrassed about their treatment.

  2. gm will need to clean house up top before considering a new Chevy. What a mess the C8 program has been. You don’t get much for your money anymore. At least not even close to the 2019 C7 days.

  3. Wow, more on going bullshit from Chevrolet. Someone has a lot of explaining to do. It’s not the cars fault Daniel, it’s the useless Management at Chevrolet. The cars have proven to be awesome, as usual it’s the joke of a management team that is at fault. People need to start harassing Barra and GM as a whole on a daily basis. We as enthusiasts should just wait for these cars to enter the used market and avoid the idiots at GM completely. What a mess.

  4. GM has just destroyed their efforts to increase conquest sales. What owner of European or Asian car would remotely consider a Corvette after reading about this issue, on top of the hundreds of 2023 cars manufactured missing parts, and still sitting at BGA months after coming off the line?

I love my C8, but I’d sure think twice about buying another.

  5. I purchased a 2022, great car. I heard they upgraded the transmission for the ZO6 with an added clutch, not sure, but I know they beefed it up. The transmission is locking up just driving it easy.

GM is talking about making Corvette a separate division like Pontiac and Oldsmobile, hope who ever is in charge now doesn’t go there.

  6. Wonder if they are trying to get an idea of how to set up E-Ray production????
After all there has been mention of it being made in Michigan

  7. I feel sorry for the people waiting for these Corvettes and it’s ridiculous Chevrolet hasn’t informed each of them what’s going on,or at the very least their dealers. That said,I’m more than happy with my 2023 70th Anniversary Z51 HTC I ordered in December and took delivery in April. Paid MSRP window with no mark up. Couldn’t be happier so far,the Corvette was worth every penny and more. Hope the hold up on these 2024s is something simple, but the fact the numbers are growing in Pontiac is scary. The fact they have taken them to Pontiac to sit in a lot is even scarier.

  8. GM has a real mess on their hands. These cars plus all the other C8’s that were/are sitting in the Boling Green Assembly Plant Lot is hard to understand. My 23 Z06 sat UNCOVERED for 9 weeks before finally being shipped. I got a courtesy delivery at Tonkin Chevrolet Hillsboro Oregon and the car was a total mess on the exterior. Picked it up with an empty gas tank and I had to clean the car. O, it didn’t have everything on the sticker, missing the Engine Appearance Package. Chevrolet is embarrassing all of us. John

  9. As far as I know why is it that no other generation Corvette has had the issues and all the bullshit to deal with in buying a new one that the C8 has had?

  10. The eighth generation Corvette has been cursed from the beginning, just one thing after another. Every time I read about this kind of crap GM is putting people through, I love my C6 a little more, especially the 427 c.i. motor under the hood.

  11. Pay for a car, any car, before pick up at the dealer? That’s nuts!
I don’t doubt that some dealers may try ‘scare tactics ‘, like well they can’t hold the Corvette, or other nonsense, but that BS.
The dealers Floorplan financial source is debetited when a vehicle is shipped to them, not before. So in reality, the dealer doesn’t even own the car until that point.
I’m speaking as a 40 year dealership management now retired.

  12. Mary may have felt some guilt about all of those gas hog c 8’s about to be unleashed to the public, so much so that she ordered them all to be electrified. He he.

  13. Government Motors, do you expect any better? Still waiting to get my share of the taxpayer bail out we paid.

  14. I understand the anguish about the delay, but consider the alternative if GM knowingly shipped out cars to customers with big problems like a Delorean? Then you’re on the mercy of local dealership mechanics which may or may not be very familiar with these cars. Then your car gets trapped in dealership hell for many more months than the factory correction we’re addressing. Maybe the dealer mechanics won’t get the repair right or might accidentally damage something else while making repairs. A mid-engine car is very hard to work on… Shipping cars to Pontiac isn’t cheap and GM doesn’t exactly enjoy getting customer complaints. Mary Barra didn’t, and doesn’t assemble these cars. Whatever it is, a problem has been identified and is seriously being worked which is all that can really be done. It’s annoying to have to wait, not dangerous. Life and manufacturing isn’t perfect. Things can go wrong.

  15. Why isn’t Mary to blame???? She runs GM and bears the ultimate responsibility for this mess! Someone on high gave the go-ahead to begin production PRIOR to thorough testing of all components; including Tremec. But not to worry GM still gets their money even though they have complete control over the vehicle. It’s so unfortunate that the GM Board members allow this obvious illegal practice. It’s also unfortunate that a new Class Action lawsuit is probably being prepared. GM deserves its reputation as a corporation that builds incomplete cars and doesn’t communicate with customers. Nothing will change until someone in GM leadership has the sense to demand and hire competent supply managers, quality test managers and most importantly honest financially secure component suppliers. Is it all a result of Mary’s highly touted diversity/inclusion strategy??? You have to wonder.

  16. Spot on Bob,like anything else in life,it could always be worse. They really should be more informative with the owners though, let them know what the issues are and what they’re doing to rectify any problems.

  17. Perhaps the issue was caused by a few disgruntled assembly workers while the UAW negotiations and strikes at other plants were going on?

  18. Loving my 100% factory original 2000 C5 more and more. We’re both super- survivors!! Good luck guys, and I truly mean that.

  19. I would rather have a C8, but my 2019 Z06 is looking better all the time! I am hoping that it is just something minor to fix, but they just don’t have the part. We can speculate all we want, but there are thousands of possibilities. It is a little unnerving they don’t standup and explain themselves.
