In today’s world, the mantra seems to be what have you done for me lately?

Well, the mid-engine Corvette Stingray has racked up a plethora of awards since being introduced as a 2020 model. Then lately it has been the 2023 Z06’s turn on the podium.

Now, led by a team from General Motors and its suppliers, the new 2024 E-Ray has just picked up its first award – the Vehicle Engineering Team Award given by the Society of Plastics Engineers.

The joint team will receive the award at the 52nd Society of Plastics Engineers Automotive Innovation Awards Gala in November.

Created in 2004, the VETA award recognizes the technical achievements of entire teams — comprised of automotive designers and engineers, Tier integrators, materials suppliers, toolmakers and others — whose work in research, design, engineering and manufacturing has led to significant integration of polymeric materials on notable vehicles, according to a story by CompositesWorld.

The new E-Ray, which is the first all-wheel drive as well as the first electric hybrid Corvette, earned the award for its use of several plastic and composite technologies that supported the multi-patented electrified propulsion system. These technologies, which were also nominated in other categories, include a carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy wheel (system supplier and material process Carbon Revolution), hybrid battery interconnect board, plastic oil cooling lines, battery module side plates, and battery module structure.

The new E-Ray, of course, is the quickest Corvette ever, moving from 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds thanks to the use of a naturally aspirated 495-horsepower internal combustion engine for the rear wheels and a 160-horsepower electric motor for the front wheels.
