The Corvette Assembly Plant is Experiencing 'Temporary Parts Supply Issues

This afternoon we caught word that production at the Corvette Assembly Plant was being impacted by a temporary parts supply issue, and that was backed up by the Detroit News who received official confirmation from General Motors.

“The plant is utilizing every effort to minimize downtime and produce as many cars as possible,” GM spokesperson Kevin Kelly said in a statement. “Our supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to minimize further impacts on production in order to meet the strong demand for our products.”

The Detroit News report says that operations have continued at the plant but at a lower output, and it was emphasized that the temporary parts supply issue was not a result of the UAW’s Stand Up Strike that is targeting the Big 3 automakers selectively.

Earlier today we caught a rumor about the Corvette Assembly Plant running low on parts (when has it not been?) while our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum are specifically saying there is shortage of Bedford castings. Most likely this is a shipping delay and hopefully not something bigger. We’ll watch tomorrow’s production counts to see how big of an impact the parts shortage created.

The 2024 Stingrays started production on September 18th while the 2024 Z06 started down the assembly line the week of October 3rd. As of last week, there were already 2,700 new Stingrays and 391 Corvette Z06s produced. We’re at the halfway point of October and already more than 3,000 Corvettes have been produced for the 2024 model year.

Unfortunately, there are still plenty of 2023 Z06 owners wondering when their Corvettes will be released as the supply chain issues appear for them appear to be more than just temporary.

  1. Time for the CEO to go. My corvette was built Sept 19 just to sit outside for bird shit to bake into the fresh paint. Still hasn’t been shipped. What a joke.

  2. Wow, this is BS. What the hell is GM’s friggen problem?? Parts problems AGAIN????? ZO6’s sitting out in the weather while GM is STILL trying to pull it’s head out of it’s Corporate ass?! Is Chevrolet TRYING to piss off customers so they buy a Ford?? If I was one of those poor bastards still waiting on my Vette, I would start calling every damn day until they get sick of hearing from me. My god this really pisses me off and I don’t have one waiting for me, can’t imagine what everyone else is going through. Maybe it’s time to hold the morons at Chevrolet accountable, for every additional week my car sits because of this parts horse shit I get a $1000 rebate. Or screw you guys and give me my deposit/money back. What a mess.

  3. Maybe GM ought to take some of those 20 Million a year salaries and expand the plant and build there own damn parts.

  4. I can order a Tesla online and with in 8 weeks of clicking the purchase button the car will be delivered to my driveway. That is no lie. How can they pull off 8 weeks when GM needs 16 + months. CEO isn’t earning her salary or her ridiculous bonuses and GM stock shares. What a joke!
