When the C5 Corvette first made an appearance on the scene in 1997, it was accompanied by a documentary book called “All Corvettes Are Red.”
That wasn’t exactly true, though Torch Red did prove to be the most popular color that year, followed by Black (2,393), Sebring Silver Metallic (2,164), and Arctic White (1,341).
Three other colors were offered, including 381 in Light Carmine Red Metallic and 292 in Nassau Blue Metallic, but by far the rarest color in ’97 was Fairway Green Metallic, with just 155 coupes made. (The color vanished after ’98 when 153 coupes and 70 convertibles were built.)
Some cynics might say it was the rarest because it was the least popular or the ugliest, but others like the owner of this ’97 currently up for sale on craigslist would vehemently disagree.
Indeed, this Fairway Green example has been “babied to the max,” spending its entire life in the garage when not being driven – “never sat outside at any time!”
Owned by a “car collector and senior citizen mature gentleman,” this C5 remains in top-notch condition with only 32,000 miles on the odometer, despite being a 26-year-old vehicle.
“One of the hardest Corvettes to get, Fairway Green – especially with the gray leather (interior) – most have black, (but) the gray is so much better!” he says.
Outfitted with an automatic transmission, this car includes the only engine offered that year – the all-new LS1 V8 that displaced 346 cubic inches and produced 345 horsepower.
In the listing, the seller declares that “this baby is a blast to drive,” garnering more compliments than any other vehicle he’s owned.
“And I have owned them all – many cool cars – Mercedes SL600, 500, Jaguar, Acura NSX, Porsche, even Ferrari,” he says. “This one gets more people loving on it than the others.”

I’d rather see fairway green on a C8 instead of cacti. Not because I golf, I just like the color.
That’s a great color for that Vette . I’ve never seen it before.I wouldn’t mind owning it.
