Bob Lutz may be 91 years old, but the former GM executive isn’t ready to climb out of the driver’s seat yet.

In fact, Lutz has just been tapped as a new member of the board of directors for Carbon Revolution, the Australian-based company that provides the optional carbon fiber wheels for the C8 Corvette Z06.

Lutz and several other former U.S. automotive execs will be joining the board once Carbon Revolution’s merger with Twin Ridge Capital Acquisition Corporation (NYSE:TRCA) is completed this month.

“I have full confidence they will bring to the company a high degree of additional experience, skills and insights that will be invaluable following our U.S. listing, as we pursue new growth opportunities globally,” Carbon Revolution Board Chair James Douglas said in a prepared statement.

The carbon fiber wheels reduce the Z06’s unsprung weight by 41 pounds compared to the stock aluminum wheels, serving to improve the Corvette’s lap times by one to two seconds over a two-minute lap.

Despite the fact that gasoline-powered vehicles appear to be on their way out, Carbon Revolution believes its carbon fiber wheels will still be important in the automotive world in the coming years as they claim the weight savings will help electric vehicles achieve a longer range.
