With the demise of the manual transmission in Corvettes with the introduction of the current eighth generation, many enthusiasts seem to prefer a four-speed manual when it comes to buying a C2.
That’s not always the case, though, as some aging owners find it difficult physically to maneuver with a manual transmission these days and prefer the convenience of a two-speed Powerglide automatic instead.
If that’s the case, then they might want to take a look at this 1965 Sting Ray, one of only 2,021 that year equipped with such an automatic transmission – out of a total production of 23,564 cars.
The car, which has the optional L75 327/300 horsepower V8 engine, is currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid has hit $25,000 with five days left in the auction.
This Sting Ray started life as a Goldwood Yellow car (one of 1,275 built in ’65) but under previous ownership was changed to black. Following a collision in 2016, the current owner, who has had the car since 2013, replaced the front end of the car with a one-piece unit instead of the multiple panels from the factory. Overall, the paint still seems to be decent, particularly for a black car, though there are some blemishes, including one very noticeable below one of the door locks.
The black vinyl upholstery is in good shape, though the carpets could use a redye or replacement, especially in the luggage compartment that is showing severe fading. An aftermarket AM/FM radio is in the dash, though the original radio is included with the sale.
Other features include a retractable antenna, heater, tinted windows, power steering, and lap belts, along with four-wheel disc brakes and fully independent suspension, with upper and lower control arms in the front and a three-link design with a transverse leaf spring in the rear. The car also has 15-inch steel wheels with faux knock-off covers with 205/75 Lion Sport GP tires.
