[VIDEO] Firefighters Rescue Man Stuck in a C7 Corvette After Battery Dies

Here’s a prime example of why every car owner should be required to read the owner’s manual before they even crank up the vehicle.

Daily Mail shared a TikTok video showing a claustrophobic man supposedly trapped inside his C7 Corvette convertible because the electrically operated doors wouldn’t open after the battery died at a convenience store.

The video shows the man begging firefighters to smash out the window and get him out of the Corvette without worrying about the cost of any repairs to the glass. Eventually, after failing earlier attempts to jump-start the car, they do heed his pleas and break the glass.

“Break the window. Y’all sitting here trying to Goddamn jump it, get me out of this motherf**ker,” says the man as sweat drips down his face. “I’ll pay for the Goddamn damage,” Quan shouts before giving one firefighter the thumbs up to shatter the glass.

If the driver had bothered to read the owner’s manual, however, he’d know there are manual door release levers beside both seats in the floorboard that would have freed him instantly. Salesmen need to make it a habit to inform their customers about these releases because, let’s face it, how many people do read the owner’s manual?

A similar incident happened with less successful results in 2015 when a 72-year-old Texas man and his dog died of heat exhaustion, trapped inside his Corvette (also equipped with a manual override) because of a dead battery. His family wound up filing a wrongful death suit against GM the next year, the results of which are unclear.

  1. Corvette’s have had an emergency release for over 3 generations. Looks like this guy panicked and yes it was surprising none of the firefighters knew about the emergency release. If the “Owner” just felt around by the seat controls he might have found the release!

  2. That was so damn stupid and unnecessary to break the window. If that guy paid any attention to his car he would know there’s a lever in both footwells for each door even if he didn’t read the owner’s manual. I have a C7 and those levers aren’t all that hard to miss when you open the doors.

  3. One more good reason I hate people, stupid morons like this should buy a Toyota or a friggen Nissan and stay away from the nice stuff. Ya the handles are right there next to the seat, if it’s a coupe then why not just pop the top?? I looked at a GS Vette at a dealer here and they busted the window in the C6 GS I was there to look at. I showed them how to access the car with a dead battery. I asked the salesman, none of you morons know how to use Google?? READ THE GOD DAMN OWNERS MANUAL!! First thing I do when I get a different car.

  4. What an F’n dope. And the guy posted this for the world to see? Bigger dope yet. Wonder how many payments he had made on the car.

  5. Did anyone think maybe he stole the car? He looks like a car thief. That’s why he didn’t know about the handles. Everything is someone else fault.

  6. Incredible, that emergency door release has been around for many years. Going to be nice and NOT say what I am thinking. 🙄
