With the eBay Motors auction slated to end Sunday, the high bid for this 1963 split-window Corvette coupe has already hit $72,950.
“While it needs work,” the seller admits in the listing, “it has the potential to become a stunning showpiece.”
It’s amazing what folks are willing to pay for a classic car like this one that doesn’t even run or drive at this point, but the bones do appear to be there for a factory restoration or a wild and crazy restomod.
On the bright side, the original 327/340 horsepower V8 engine is still under the hood, but the three-speed manual transmission has been replaced at some point.
The seller admits that what you see in the photos is what you will get, noting that “a dishonest body shop” took the car apart in the past and “lost, sold, or stole a lot of the parts.”
Much of the original red interior, for example, is missing, including all the gauges, and the seats and dashboard look to be about the only parts still there.
Fortunately, the trim pieces for the split window inside and out are included, as is the front windshield trim, though the windshield to go inside it is missing.
The seller believes the frame may have been restored “some time back,” and the primered fiberglass body looks like it might be close to being ready for a new paint job, with good body gaps and all bonding seams said to be intact.
We’ve always been told that there are a lot of one-year-only parts on ‘63s, so we’d like to hear from someone out there with experience on these cars to point out whether these elusive parts are still on this car.
It’s always good to see any 1963 coupe on the road to restoration, and we hope someone out there will take on the task of bringing this one back. Could it be you?

My question would have been is that an orginal 63 body or like I have seen done where they add the split windows making it look like a 63 split window?
