[ACCIDENT] C3/C1 Corvette Conversion Catches Fire in Florida

It’s been pretty warm here in the Sunshine State during the month of August, but not so much that we should be seeing Corvettes that are spontaneously combusting like a drummer from Spinal Tap. But that’s what appears to have happened to this interesting C3/C1 retro Corvette conversion.

The North Bay Fire Control District near Destin, Florida responded to an emergency call on Friday afternoon with reports of a vehicle fire at the Marina on Bluewater Bay. When they arrived, there were flames shooting from the blue Corvette’s engine compartment.

The flames were quickly doused but it looks like the damage was already done. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

One commentor on the Facebook post says she was there when the fire department extinguished the flames. Regarding the car’s owner, she said “Oh he was very upset. He was having himself some lunch. He came out to his car then went back inside and had a beer.

As far as the conversion goes, that definitely looks to be a C3 birdcage with T-Tops combined with the looks of a 1960 Corvette. Most of these types of retro conversions we’ve seen are done with the C5 and C6 Corvettes, so it’s a shame to see the car go through this incident.
