Corvettes for Sale: AAT 1953/2003 Commemorative Edition Offered on Craigslist

Back in 2003, Chevy was celebrating a big anniversary for the Corvette – its 50th birthday, in fact.

To mark the occasion, the company first had GM designer Steve Pasteiner combine the look of the original 1953 Corvette and update it to fit on a C5 chassis with all the high-tech advancements of the past half-century. GM commissioned Magna Steyr to build a prototype that might end up being offered to customers as “THE” 50th Anniversary Edition Corvette.

When all was said and done, though, GM went a more conservative route and wound up producing 4,085 coupes and 7,547 convertibles with a $5,000 option that combined a one-year-only Anniversary Red paint job with a special Shale interior that included anniversary badges and cockpit embroidery.

Pasteiner still believed in his own celebratory concept, though, so much so that he wound up purchasing the rights and factory molds and forming a company named Advanced Automotive Technologies to produce a very limited number of cars, 100 in all. All new body panels were installed using the same attachment locations as production panels, and a small recess cut into the rear trunk inner fiberglass to clearance the new deck lid is said to be the only modification to the production vehicle. There are no structural modifications, and all safety-related items remain intact.

One of these AAT cars is now being offered on Craigslist out of the Canyon Lake, Texas area, northeast of San Antonio, at the price of $55,700.

We aren’t offered any details about this particular Commemorative Edition, other than it has 1,000 miles on the odometer. The photos seem to indicate the car has been well cared for. The white paint looks to be in excellent condition, and the white-and-red interior appears immaculate, as well. It’s outfitted with an automatic transmission and an LS1 350-horsepower engine.

We always thought the proportions on these conversions are a little out of whack, but admittedly, this one does look pretty sharp in the listing photos. Would you like to celebrate the Corvette’s Golden Anniversary with this car sitting in your driveway?

  1. I’ had seen the 1953/2003 commemorative Corvette years ago at Midwest Corvette Funfest. The car at that time was impressive. It’s not a C8, but all in all, it was extremely well done, in my opinion.

  2. I’ve also seen a couple of these cars in person and I didn’t think they looked all that bad. What’s bad are the C6 Corvettes that have been converted to look like C2’s. IMO those cars are doing it all wrong and the proportions on them look stupid.
