Over the weekend at Road America where Corvette Racing fans turned out to see the No. 3 Corvette C8.R on the track, there was another Corvette on display that was also generating plenty of attention. That car was the 2024 Corvette Z06 GT3.R that will see its first race in January at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The 2024 Corvette Z06 was dressed in its flat black show car livery and was parked at the entrance of the Corvette Corral at Road America. One set of pics featuring the Corvette Z06 GT3.R come from Pratt Miller Motorsports while the others are from Corvette Racing’s all-around indispensable man, David James.

The Z06 GT3.R is very wide and that in turn opens up the side air intakes which are now trimmed the same as the street-going Z06. Like every Corvette Racer coming before it, the aero on the car is extreme, with a large rear wing, a massive front splitter, and a set of two front canards that sit on each front corner. There is also a dedicated air duct on the lower sides for the brakes. The Z06 GT3.R also features a dual center exhaust but with just two pipes instead of the four on the street car. The integration of the standard tail lights makes it look like the comes directly off the line in Bowling Green.

The new Corvette Z06 GT3.R shares many parts and components with its street legal sibling, the 2023 Corvette Z06, including the street car’s chassis, suspension, and most importantly, its 5.5-liter flat plane crank V8 engine. The LT6.R shares more than 70 percent of its parts with the LT6 street motor, including crankshaft, connecting rods, cylinder heads, fuel injectors and a variety of other components.

Currently, there are three teams that have stepped up and will be racing the new GT3.R Corvette beginning in 2024. Pratt Miller Motorsports will build on their 25 years of experience with Corvette and Chevrolet by campaigning two Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs in IMSA’s GTD-Pro class. In the GTD class, Canadian team AWA Racing has just committed to fielding a two-car team for both 2024 and 2025. Meanwhile, the English team TF Sport will run two Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs in the FIA World Endurance Championship which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Chevrolet is said to be still evaluating interest of teams in the SRO America and the Intercontinental GT Challenge series.

In addition to providing cars to the teams, Chevrolet is also embarking on a customer racing support package for its member teams. The support will feature full spares of body work and critical internal components, as well as engineering support, data analysis, and race strategy.

  1. The Corvette team takes the award for the most bad luck; they either smoke everybody…or get ssmoked…..hard. That’s what happens when you only run a single car against everybody other OEM who has plenty of cars out there.

This is still a relatively minimalist effort IMHO.

Good news that they plussed up to six total cars for next year, but in the wake of that, Ford debuts their GT3, then debuts the GT4…complete with its own IMSA-sanctioned single make championship.

Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini have multiple single make championships, while Merc, Audi and BMW have significant presence around the world as well.

    Opportunity lost for GM.

America’s Sports Car deserves better than this.

    Do better, GM.

  2. Hello GM, how many horses will the Zo6 GT3 have ? Will the Gt3 have the 2 motors up front by the wheels , for the x-tra 200 horses ? And it will be street
Illegal ? And only stick shift ?
