Corvettes for Sale: Very Affordable 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette Offered on Craigslist

Commemorative editions of Corvettes can be very expensive, but here’s a much cheaper way to break into the hobby and still feel special.

The owner of this 1978 Silver Anniversary coupe is asking just $11,950 or best offer in an ad on Craigslist out of the Great Falls, Virginia area – west of the nation’s capital.

Back in 1978, Chevy decided to mark the 25th anniversary of its sports car with a silver over black Indy Pace Car edition. After news of the special car broke in the Wall Street Journal, prices soared into the stratosphere as speculators moved into the market hoping to make a quick buck.

Since it was going to be so hard to get one of the 6,502 Pace Cars, Chevy decided to offer another commemorative edition – known as the Silver Anniversary that was not limited in numbers. At a cost of just $399, some 15,283 customers chose the package that included a two-tone silver paint job (lighter on top and darker on bottom, separated by silver striping) and also mandated the purchase of the optional sport mirrors and aluminum wheels.

The owners of this Silver Anniversary ‘Vette report that some 45 years later, it’s still in “good condition” with 43,100 “original” miles, has been repainted once, though we aren’t told how long ago, and sports a “newer” set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

The car features an automatic transmission and the less powerful L48 engine that produced 185 horsepower (the optional L82 made 220 horsepower), along with the less common black cloth and leather bucket seats.

Released in the midst of the “Smokey and the Bandit” craze, this car is one of 7,138 Corvettes built in 1978 with an AM/FM stereo radio with CB.
