Some Corvettes just have that certain “oomph” about them, more so than others.
Maybe it’s the 15-inch American Racing mag wheels that do the trick for this 1959 roadster, or maybe it’s the menacing black paint with contrasting silver coves.
Regardless, this car just LOOKS like it would be a ton of fun to drive.
Some lucky person will soon be able to find out for themselves as this ’59 is currently being offered on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid has already soared to $56,789 with six more days to add to that figure.
The seller bought the car in 2022 after it had apparently been refurbished, including a Wilwood front disc brake conversion to go along with the factory stock independent front suspension and semi-elliptical rear leaf springs. (In case you might ever want to return the car to original condition, the removed front brake components are included, by the way. Having just installed disc brakes on my ’70 Impala, I can’t imagine anyone ever wanting to go back to the drum brakes, however.)
Based on the photos, the new owner may not have very much work to do on the car, other than climb behind the wheel and enjoy driving the 283 V8 engine that’s hooked to a four-speed manual transmission. However, as you might expect from a black car, there are some blemishes around the fuel-filler door, near the right fender vents, and around the body, as illustrated in the gallery of photos included with the listing.
The car isn’t a trailer queen, by any means, so that could mean a new owner might not have to be paranoid whenever driving it, the way a perfect car can cause.
