Corvettes for Sale: 1993 40th Anniversary Corvette on Craigslist

If you’re looking for a way to celebrate a Corvette anniversary in style without paying more than $100k for the latest, greatest 2023 70th Anniversary edition, look no further than this 40th Anniversary Corvette being offered on Craigslist for only $22,500.

Chevy marked the momentous occasion back in 1993 with arguably one of the best-looking anniversary editions in Corvette history. Unlike the recent 1988 35th Anniversary Corvette that appeared as more of a one-year marketing ploy than a true celebration of the model, Chevy pulled out all the stops with the 40th birthday, including a birthday party on June 30, 1993 attended by Chevy and GM employees outside the Chevrolet Central Office Building at the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. Elsewhere, 40th anniversary celebrations were planned in June for the Corvette Homecoming show at the Bowling Green assembly plant and the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show in Springfield, Illinois.

The Anniversary Package was offered across all three Corvette models: coupe, convertible, and ZR-1, and nearly one in three ’93s wound up with this modestly priced $1,455 option to make it the highest-volume special-edition Corvette ever produced. Some 6,749 left the Bowling Green factory, with an estimated 2,171 convertibles like this one, along with another 4,333 coupes and 245 ZR-1s.

The 40th Anniversary Edition featured an exclusive exterior and leather interior color called Ruby Red. Chevrolet created a special 40th anniversary logo featuring the number 40 along with the C4 crossed flags attached on the front quarter panels above the side vents. Bright C4 logo badges were placed on the hood and fuel door. The Ruby Red leather interior included the sport seats, door panels, and carpet, with the 40th anniversary logo embroidered on the headrests. Convertibles included an exclusive Ruby Red cloth convertible top, and this one even added a matching hardtop, a $1,995 option chosen by only 976 customers across the entire model line so not many Anniversary Edition convertibles were likely to be so equipped.

You may remember that a 1993 40th Anniversary coupe was one of the eight Corvettes to fall into the sinkhole that formed under the National Corvette Museum in 2014, and that one was so badly damaged that it could not be restored and is thus now displayed in its post-accident form at the museum.

No such problem with this three-Texas-owner convertible being offered in Rowlett, Texas. With just 55,000 miles over the past 30 years, it remains in great shape. Recent maintenance includes new Optispark distributor, ignition wires, spark plugs, water pump, thermostat, drive belt, and fresh fluids. New tires were installed in 2020 and have less than 1,000 miles on them. A “great sounding” Corsa exhaust was also fitted in 2003, the seller tells us.

“This Vette drives like new with plenty of LT1 power (300 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque) on tap,” he says, “and it looks drop dead gorgeous doing it with only minor wear. It’s a car that will flat eat up the miles in comfort and style.” Happy Anniversary, Corvette!

  1. This is a nice looking 40th Anniversary Edition with a rare to find nice looking interior. On most of these cars that I see nowadays the Ruby Red interior looks like crap because that color interior usually does not age well.
