For the second time this month and third time in less than two years, a vehicle has crashed into the same apartment building in Santa Ana, California.

The most recent accident happened around 9:43 p.m. Friday when CountyNews.TV reports that a silver C4 Corvette coupe struck a bollard and wound up resting against the Vista del Rio apartment building that houses people with physical and developmental disabilities.

The building, located in the 1600 block of West Memory Lane, wasn’t damaged, but the Corvette suffered extensive damage, based on photos that showed the car sitting at a 45-degree angle amidst lush landscaping as authorities walked around and checked out the scene.

The driver, the sole occupant of the Corvette, was treated at the scene before being rushed by paramedics to an area hospital, with his condition unknown. Also unknown is whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which is still under investigation. No one in the apartment building was injured.

Ironically, the building has been struck two previous times within the past two years – most recently on May 1 when a minivan lost control and crashed its way into an apartment at the same building, leaving a resident pinned under the vehicle in critical condition.

We note that this silver C4 Corvette appears to be a 1996 Collector’s Edition based on the wheels, and that it was driving with a Schrier Automotive dealer’s plate. The Corvette suffered significant damage and the pole coming through the rear tire well and out the brake light is just one of the things we noticed in the photos.

“It was a group effort to make sure that vehicle could be lifted and moved safely to free the patient,” Orange County Fire Capt. Sean Doran told OnSceneTV at the time. The driver and any possible occupants of the van fled the scene, and police ask anyone with information on their whereabouts to call Investigator Corporal N. Quinones at 714-245-8216 or the traffic division at 714-245-8200.

A vehicle also struck the building on Aug. 8, 2021.
