Judging by the heavy damage done to this C7 Corvette coupe from a wreck in Texas this week, you might be surprised – and relieved – to know that the driver escaped without injury, despite having to be extracted from the car by emergency crews.

KTAB/KRBC reports that the crash happened when the Corvette driver tried to cut in front of an 18-wheeler as traffic was filing into a single lane, causing the Chevy to hit an outside barrier after spinning out.

The crash, which happened about 9:27 a.m. Thursday, temporarily backed up traffic on I-20 near Highway 351 in the Abilene area.

The truck driver also escaped injury, though the Corvette wasn’t as fortunate, with pieces of the badly damaged car lying scattered along the interstate in the emergency lane.
