Three new faces will soon be joining the prestigious Corvette Hall of Fame, according to an announcement last week during the NCM Bash by the National Corvette Museum.

The members-elect, representing three categories, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 2 and include:

• Enthusiast – John Amgwert, Founding Member of National Corvette Restorers Society
• Racing – Dan Binks, retired crew chief of Corvette Racing
• GM-Chevrolet – David Wickman, retired GM Vehicle Performance Manager of Milford Proving Grounds

“Each of this year’s members-elect have left an indelible mark on the history of the Corvette,” said Sharon Brawner, President and CEO of the National Corvette Museum. “These gentlemen have spent their lives dedicated to Corvette excellence, and we could not be more grateful for their commitment to America’s Sports Car. Their individual passions have contributed to both the legacy and the future of the Corvette.”

Helping found the NCRS in 1974, Amgwert went on to serve 25 years as the editor-in-chief of The Corvette Restorer magazine – a trusted resource for Corvette history. His efforts there to form a technical library eventually resulted in what would become the National Corvette Museum.

Starting in 2002, Binks was a key member of the Corvette Racing team as racing crew chief, fabricator, and do-it-all competitor, helping the team win more than 100 races during that time, including six class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, three at the 24 Hours of Daytona, and 11 at the 12 Hours of Sebring. After retiring in 2020, he’s still busy in his Michigan shop where he now prepares cars he once raced professionally for vintage events, restores race cars, and builds engines.

Wickman’s lifelong dream of becoming a GM engineer came true in 1978, and his involvement with Corvette dates back to the C4 when he was Test Engineer for the launch of the fourth generation. He went on to manage Corvette development at Milford Proving Grounds as Lead Development Engineer for the C5 Z06, C6, and C7 – a role in which he oversaw total vehicle development integration and validation from prototype through production.

Each year, the Corvette Hall of Fame honors the most influential individuals in the history of the Corvette, with nominees selected annually by an anonymous panel of Corvette experts, with another separate group of 100 anonymous Corvette experts then voting to choose three finalists. Since its beginning in 1998, only 79 people have been inducted.

If you’d like to attend the induction ceremony this fall, tickets will be available starting in June when registration opens for the NCM’s anniversary event. Go to corvettehalloffame.org for more information.
