Competition Carbon Bringing Round Taillights to the C8 Corvette

Wait long enough and the aftermarket will offer a solution for the folks who don’t like some aspect of the design of the new C8 Corvette.

For example, a company named Competition Carbon just released photos of its revised throwback design of the 2020-23 taillights, going all the way back to the round rear lights of the C6 and even further for inspiration.

In an Instagram post, Competition Carbon reports it will start taking orders for its new custom carbon fiber kit starting next week, though pricing is still not finalized.

The design – which eliminates what some felt was the too much Camaro-like appearance of the stock treatment – seems to retain the overall outline of the C8’s stock taillights but features two circular lights inside that shape. At first glance, it reminds us of other supercars like the Ferrari and Nissan GT-R.

While we won’t be replacing the lights on our own ’23 Stingray with this kit, we don’t particularly hate this design and say more power to any mid-engine Corvette owners who might desire to add a custom touch like this.

We first heard about this kit through Carscoops, who apparently aren’t a big fan and wrote: “It would have been nice to see Competition Carbon blend the new housing into the rest of the body rather than leave the contours of the old lights, which were a separate design feature unto themselves.

What do you think about this new design alternative that’s sure to be polarizing in the Corvette community?

  1. I agree — interesting idea, but not a big fan of the execution. I would be more interested in seeing someone come out with an entire custom rear facia that could replace the stock rear facia.

  2. Agree. The C8 rear end is so busy. The weakest point of the car. Of course the rest of the car is top notch. Anything that can do away with some of the angles would be an improvement. For instance, blend in the outer edge of the lens with the body.

  3. More junk for people to buy. Looks better on a rice burner with the tall wing and a big stainless muffler hanging under the bumper. Unfortunately I have seen too many corvettes with nonsense add-ons from Pep Boys.

  4. Fans of personalizing the exterior of their Corvettes, I am not one, will love these. Engine, suspension and brakes, yea, count me in. But to each his or her own. We are all of the Corvette family.
