If you thought it was hard to find a 2023 Corvette Z06 these days, here’s what may be an even tougher challenge for a Chevy enthusiast.
In the small town of Seneca, South Carolina, the only Aztec Gold Corvette available for sale right now in the entire world is being offered by Vette City for $39,900.
Only 12 coupes and three convertibles were produced in Aztec Gold in 1998 by Chevy, which struggled mightily to get the color right on these cars and finally threw in the towel. After three separate attempts, the Bowling Green factory was apparently never able to meet production standards, and all 15 Aztec Gold Corvettes ended up being titled to GM and sold to dealerships as used cars. According to the sellers, Aztec Gold is now even considered a non-production color since none of the 15 units was sold as “new” vehicles by GM.
“The RAREST Corvette color in the last 50 years!” the listing boasts, describing the car as “the unicorn, the holy grail, whatever superlative you want to use … THIS IS THE MUSEUM PIECE, THE COLLECTORS PIECE that you’ve been looking for.”
This car is #3 out of the 15 made and is said to be one of six made with Light Oak interior. With just 24,000 miles, it remains in tip-top condition inside and out. Like all the other 14 Aztec Gold cars, this one has an LS1 345-horsepower V8 engine connected to an automatic transmission.
“If you want a 1998 Aztec Gold Corvette for your collection, this is THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD for sale currently!!!” screams the listing. “Do NOT miss this opportunity…it may never come around again.”
While we prefer other colors like red and silver, we can definitely appreciate the rarity of these Aztec Gold cars and would love to have it in our collection. What about you?

A beautiful color, its a shame that G.M. had these amazingly beautiful colors and thought they couldn’t get it right. Another color was “Arctic Pearl White” https://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/specs/c4/1989/89arcticpearl.html I guess it was a Dollars & Cents move to give up on ’em ?
