It’s been a little while since we’ve spied a camouflaged C8. A huge thanks goes out to a reader named Austin for sending us this quick video and few photos of a Chevy engineering team driving the 2023 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 Performance Package in the southeastern Indiana town of Lawrenceburg this week. Five C8 Z06s are in the group with one of the cars wrapped in camo.

All these cars appear to be Z06s, and they are all wearing the prototype VIN stickers on the lower windshields which makes us think these could be prototype 2024 models.

Perhaps the most interesting car in the group is that camouflaged Z06 mule on the end. Austin went around to the back of the car and snapped this photo of it wearing the EPA test pipes fitted to the center-mounted exhaust. This tells us that some changes may have been made to the car and the testing pipes are used for emissions tests to document those changes. We also note there there is no aero whatsoever on the rear deck of that mule.

The Red Z06 next to the camo’d mule appears to be an export version as well. It’s not wearing the Z07 aero and we can see the corner-mounted outboard exhaust. The front radiators of that car is also visible and we don’t see the tell-tale sign of the vertically mounted radiator that tells us it has the E-Ray cooling system installed. So were pretty confident that it’s a true Z06.

Austin also snapped this photo of the test mule’s interior and it shows a blue wire going to up the rear-view mirror where the front-mounted camera is located. Could this be some additional testing for the some of the new safety equipment coming to the 2024 Corvette? From previous leaks, we know that the 2024 Corvettes are getting Emergency Lane Assist (or lane departure) and Europe will soon be mandating Automatic Emergency Braking, and that front-mounted camera is used in both systems.

  1. Not sure why they would need to camo a Z06 at this point, even if it does have some engine or electronics changes. Seems like there might be more going on than that.

  2. More than likely, these are the next-gen twin-turbo Z06’s doing normal advance testing.
