Looks Like the Engine Appearance Package with Lighting is Making a Comeback

For the first couple of years of C8 production, customers could order a $995 ZZ3 Engine Appearance Package, which included two carbon fiber panels and LED lighting in the Stingray Coupe’s engine compartment. But then in January 2022, Chevrolet was forced to remove the ZZ3 package due to the current supplier getting out of the composite material business. Now it looks like the ZZ3 option is back according to a distribution update on the 2023 Corvette Order Guide.

The distribution updates are fairly numerous this week, but they appear to cover both Stingray and Z06 coupes. However, not everything is entirely clear, so we tried reaching out to Chevrolet for some clarifications, but received notifications that both of our contacts are out of the office today. We’ll update this post with any new info learned.

Stingray Updates

Let’s start first with the Stingray models. Here’s is how we are reading these updates. The first point sets the ZZ3 engine appearance package details which includes the carbon fiber panels and the engine lighting. We also see that if you order the RCC Edge Red or RCD Sterling Silver engine covers, they will come with the lighting package, but not the CF panels.

  • Stingray Exterior section-(ZZ3) Engine Appearance Package, updated extended description to now read “includes (B6P) Carbon Fiber trim and (D3V) engine lighting”.
  • Stingray Mechanical section-Added (BCP) LT2 engine cover, Edge Red, includes (D3V) engine lighting (except when (Y70) 70th Anniversary Special Edition is ordered). It is “A” on 1YC07 1LT, 2LT and 3LT.
  • Stingray Mechanical section-Added (BCS) LT2 engine cover, Sterling Silver-painted, includes (D3V) engine lighting. It is “A” on 1YC07 1LT, 2LT and 3LT.
  • Stingray Mechanical section-Added (B6P) Engine compartment trim, Carbon Fiber. It is “A1” on 1YC07 1LT, 2LT and 3LT with a footnote 1 that reads “Included and only available with (ZZ3) Engine Appearance Package.

Like we said, that’s great news and a long time coming, but then we had these two points below we were hoping to clarify with Chevrolet as these entries are saying the Sterling Silver Engine Cover (RCD) is no longer available to order, and the Edge Red Engine Cover (RCC) is now only available with 70th Anniversary package.

Update: Chevy got back to us on this question and they say “The Silver and Edge Red engine covers are now available on non-70th anniversary package vehicles and can be ordered as part of regular production.

  • Stingray Mechanical section-(RCC) LPO, LT2 engine cover in Edge Red, added a new footnote 1 to 1YC07 1LT and 2LT that reads “No longer available to order.” Old footnote 1 is now footnote 2 and now reads “No longer available to order. Included with (Y70) 70th Anniversary Special Package.”
  • Stingray Mechanical section-(RCD) LPO, LT2 engine cover in Sterling Silver, updated footnote 1 to now read “No longer available to order. Not available with (RCC) LT2 engine cover in Edge Red, LPO.

Z06 Updates

When Chevrolet first revealed the 2023 Corvette Z06, they had a fantastic visible carbon fiber engine cover that sits on top of the LT6 twin intakes. But when it came time to order, it wasn’t available, and we assumed it to be a late availability. Now we have confirmation in the order guide that it looks to be coming back.

The Z06 update is also extended to the BCW Red Intake to also include engine lighting.

  • Z06 Exterior section-(ZZ3) Engine Appearance Package, updated extended description to now read “includes (B6P) Carbon Fiber trim and (D3V) engine lighting”
  • Z06 Mechanical section-(BCW) Engine intake, Red, added an extended description that reads “includes (D3V) engine lighting”.
