Chevy Outlines the Next Three Monthly Order Cycles for Stingray and Z06

Chevrolet sent their dealers an email on Monday outlining the next three months of ordering for the Stingray and Z06 models. If you hoping for a more normalized ordering process for America’s newest sportscar, we are sorry to bring you this disappointing news.

Before we get to that, we are currently in the middle of the second order cycle for the Z06. Last Thursday, Chevy sent out new Z06 allocations to dealers, and typically that would be followed up on this Thursday with dealers submitting orders. However, because of the Thanksgiving holiday, we are most likely looking at next Thursday for the latest constraints to drop and dealers submitting orders.

When those constraints come in next Thursday (Nov. 30th), we believe that the High Wing Aero Package will have extremely low quantities nationwide to order, and then dealers can start to match up those orders to customers. Many of these first Z06 orders are so heavily optioned that some dealers during the first Order Cycle in August had to go way down their lists to fill those Standard Aero Z06 allocations, and that will probably be the case again next week. If you think you are low on your dealers list and would accept a non-Z07 build, you should be waving your hands high and yelling “Pick Me!”

Now back to this week’s dealer communication from Chevrolet. The memo lays out the ordering dates for the next three months, but nowhere does it specify Z06, so once again, dealers assume that the Z06 ordering will happen anytime a month has a second DOSP planned. FYI, DOSP stands for Dealer Order Submission Process.

For December 2022, there is only one DOSP planned. Dealers will receive their allocations (or Consensus) on December 8th and then the Constraints and Ordering will come on December 15th.

For January 2023, there again is only one DOSP planned with the Consensus coming on January 12th and Constraints and Ordering will open on January 19th.

Finally, in February 2023, there are two DOSP cycles planned, and we believe Chevy will follow the previous trends of holding the Stingray DOSP first, and then the 2nd being the Z06 cycle. The first DOSP will begin on February 2nd, and orders will start on February 9th. The second DOSP begins on February 16th, and orders will happen on February 23rd.

For the current Z06 order cycle we are in now, these orders show the targeted production build dates starting in January 2023. With the next Z06 order cycle closing in late February, those orders may see a targeted production date beginning in April. Again, that could be subject to change based on strength of the supply chain and other factors known and unknown.

The obvious next question is, will Chevrolet take another pause for a month or two on Z06 ordering after February’s DOSP, or will we be able to get to a monthly order cycle for the new car? Only time will tell.

  1. No surprise, a highly reliable source told me over a month ago that Z06s production will be restricted for the rest of the 23 MY, with a emphasis on 70th editions. What’s going to happen when they kick off the E-Ray, ZR1 and Zora. Ciocca Corvettes still has a 14-month waiting list on the base C8. MM about the same and Criswell 18-months. Time for a third shift at BGA.

  2. Yup. Just a screwed up system and messed up economy with supply chain issues not yet fully resolved. Again, there can be no third shift at BG unless they can locate workers, train them, and find time for machine maintenance, and most importantly, get their materials sourced on time and in quantity. I have been on the Stingray list now for two years and counting. Sadly when it comes to Z06, only about 10% of the customers on the various lists will actually take delivery before the C9’s start to be made.

  3. Vette Wait’er…you believe that 90% of those who have a deposit on a Z06 will never get a car? That is far worse than I thought. I assume that the C9 will not show up for more than 5 years. Then again, how many of the E-Rays and following upscale models will be built. GM needs to carry the C8 a lot longer than the typical model cycle. It is the last gas engine (and long awaited midengine) and GM has until technically 2035.

  5. More likely C9 will arrive in 2029 as a 2030 model. The current platform has too much invested in it to be used for under 10 years. ZR1 will likely reveal as a 2024 with a mild facelift and Zora as a 2026 with a major facelift (and hopefully taillift.) to take the car into C9. At least, those are my predictions.

    I am new to all of this. Ordered my first corvette in October. (2023 C8 non Z06)
    Am I clear that I will likely not even see it as a 2023 model year car?
    Does that mean that they roll over my HUGE deposit and just put me in line for a 2024?
    And then if colors or options change, I’m just screwed?

  7. Hi Robert. Stingrays are being made in quantities, so it depends on your dealer’s allocations and how many they get. They should be able to tell you where you are in line. Ordering in October means approximately nine months or so before the model changeover. Generally, if the model year changes your deposit will rollover but you have to submit a new order for 2024 MY. If colors or options change, your new order will address that (but yeah, screwed!)
